escort1991's new build, Speed Trippin'

So, after the failed attempt of the gsxr's, I have decided to part those out. Then, I picked up my brother's 02 Speed Triple for a pretty good price. It's going to be a slow build, maybe not very intensive as I like a lot of the bike. Plans will be to find a headlight assembly, put on the FasstCo bars that I have for my gsxr build and get it up and running for the summer. Then, find some USDs, maybe a rear wheel swap, tail and exhaust swap, but that won't be for a while.

What headlight should I go with?!?!?!?

There are a few bad ass half fairing headlights being done on here now. Most the time sport bike headlights made into half fairings look really huge and out of place but there a couple on here that pull off the look well. "Fate's" bike and "relaxwarrior's" bike come to mind first...

I don't know, just refreshing to see something different than a 7" or so round, twin dom's, lsl, or buell ... or vrod...lol...

I will have to look at their bikes and see what you're talking about. I am trying to stay away from the 7", twin doms, LSL VROD and Buell twin headlights. I guess the only Buell I am contemplating is the 1125CR or Ulysses headlight.

What, is that an 8" headlamp?

Another Triumph! Think outside the box.If you plan on adding pod filters or an exhaust. Get TuneECU and a Lonelec Cable (don't cheap out). Free tuning.

Heres my triumph to give you and idea what I have.

Frame: 2002 Daytona
Tank and Tail: 2005-07ish Speed Triple
Everything Else: 2001 Sprint ST

Headlights are from Rigid Industries. Offroad truck lights. Extremely bright. 1500 lumens a piece. Paid about $300 tho.

Most likely, but I've never been flashed. I can see further then most cars due to the spot light beam. Eventually I'll make a custom tail, but would need a better wire tuck.

Went and picked it up yesterday, it's now in my gf's dad's pole shed about 5mins from my place vs 30mins where it was before.

Here's a side pic of it as I left it yesterday:

I'm sure it's having more fun in the pole shed than in my garage. To keep it company is a late 70s goldwing, mid 60s BMW motorcycle, a Model A and Model T, hand built trailers, etc. hopefully some creativeness will rub off. Ha.

Very nice. I wish mine was in this condition when I got it.

How do you like the height of your seat? Reason I ask is because I'm 5'6" and my bikes borderline to tall for me and the shock is adjusted as low as possible.

Ride height is a little higher than I expected. Haven't really looked into adjusting it yet. But being 6'3, I'm not in a rush.

I need to get on the preventative maintenance train and get some oil, spark plugs, coolant. Get it all fired up. After that, swap the risers and bars. Thinking about it, I don't know when I will have time to do that. I work way too much.

Still looking for a headlight. Have a wave that I might start out with, just need a headlight wiring kit to splice first. I was thinking about going back to the dual headlight, get back to the "traditional" S3 headlights.

Duals and your funky dirty bars would look good, maybe go with screens or wire guards over the headlights, along with the handguards off your '93...would all add some enduro style. Drop on a smaller tail and cut down the donkey dong exhaust or go Buell belly-exit, and bam. Clean, basic, endurofightered Triple thats ready to rip. Off-color 900RR wheels for some nasty, or drop some $$ on spoked motard wheels with oversize spokes for extra-nasty.

Edit -- maybe fork-mount the front blinkers too

All idears I have been tossing around. I really like the Buell Ulysses headlamp, but they are hard to come by. Have always liked the Buell style underbelly exhaust, maybe a forward facing exhaust just for the hell of it. Tail is being looked at. I didn't realize how big of an ass it had until I took the fookin pic.

Haven't been doing too much work on this. Same song and dance, work work work, oh shite, I forgot to order those parts, work work work.

Still trying to sort out the headlight. Got it running. Needed a new battery, so picked one up. It ran like garbage with a check engine light on. So, I'll have to get that sorted out. I was going to use the Driven bar risers I have from the GSXRs, but the SpeedTriple's top triple is angled from center out. so, I picked up a set of Triumph Fat Bar risers. Should be here next week. That's about it. for now.

My headlight was intact and in a box when I left the bike last Saturday. Stopped over at my gf's parents place to pick up a package for her and bike isn't where it was when I left it and I found this:

Parts that were on the bike are now off the bike. There was a sheet of drawings and measurements. I couldn't get ahold of him to see what's up, but I'm liking the drawings.

DISCLAIMER: I have not once asked him to do anything on the bike. He was worried that I would ask him to do a lot of work, like anyone that asks him for help. I've done everything up until this point. So, who knows what's going on. Ha ha.

Went to work on the Speed Triple today. Walked in to parts setup by the bike and this on the table:

Noticing that the outline looks similar to the 955i gauge, I took a look on the bike and saw this:

It's a little big, but I'm not going to complain about it. I was planning to do something similar anyway. FasstCo sells a bracket specifically designed for their FlexxBars, that's similar but slimmer. I might clean/trim this one up a bit.

Then, I started cracking into the headlight work. Put the lower bracket together:

Made 2 of my own wiring harnesses for the headlight. I learned I need practice soldering. I suck at it, but was getting cleaner as I went along:

Started changing out the H7 bulbs and modified some H4 bulbs and the spacer to fit the Z1000 headlight. I will have to check light output. I went with the cheapest bulbs possible, just in case I fooked up the bulb, then I wasn't out a bunch of money:

Used a mill for the first time to punch the center out on this spacer:

Threw the bulbs, wiring into the headlight with the bracket:
