Hi All,

I have a 2009 Yamaha FZ6R that is going the naked/streetfighter route. Everything is just about done but I've been stumped by the headlight.

I am using an integrated headlight setup and everything is wired up. I've got running lights and blinkers, but no low beam or high beam. The headlight does work on another bike in the garage, so I know it has to be wiring, not the headlight itself.

When stripping down the FZ6R, everything for the dash is plug-and-play except for a wire that was grounded to the fairing stay/bracket. My guess is this wire is the problem. I've tried grounding this to the new headlight fork mounts, frame, splicing into a different ground cable, and directly even to the battery and no changes in results with the headlight. Again, plugging the headlight into a different bike in the garage and it works fine.

Any thoughts on this? I'm frustrated- this is the last thing between me and getting this bike on the road.

Looks like the FZ6R uses a relay to control the headlamp via a controller. I watched:

It looks to me like the headlight doesn't turn on unless the bike is on. Have you tried firing her up?

This. So after 2 hours of playing around with it, trying different grounding methods and locations, driving myself crazy in the process, I decided to take it for a test run anyways since it had running lights and this was all that it was 🤦‍♂️ I’ve had brighter moments haha

The wiring diagram I didn’t see- I was on page three hundred something with the lighting circuit isolated, not in color, and I didn’t find it very helpful. Thanks for pointing out the color diagram with the reference key. I’ll keep that handy for the future.

Here’s the final product, if curious.

I’ll see if I can get some nice pictures tomorrow by the forest preserve on the way home from work if the weather is good 🙂

Alright here are a few pictures. You’ll have to ignore the zip tie I forgot to cut as well as the fact she definitely needs a bath 😂 enjoy!
