I can't wait to see everybody elses finished fighters.

hopefully mine turns out.

current mods.
chopped tail
rigged headlights (woohoo for $30 driving lights from walmart)
removed fairings

planned mods
brace the swingarm
new wheels
rejet and rebuild motor
new exhaust can
new gauges
modified tail section
new lighting

and you may ask why am telling you my planned mods? because even if you copy all my ideas on a similar bike the end results would still be entirely different, so who gives a shit.

Re: FSLflints 1987 FZ-700

because of the whole thing with my son being in the hospital for a month my budget has wen't from like almost nothing to absolutly nothing.

but, because of my profession I know allot of people who can help me out quite a bit. I am a machinist and fabricator. thus the focus of this build will be fabricating new parts from scrap I have available and modifying existing parts. I think the end product will look very industrial, but will flow very well. to make this build a bit different I will be eliminating ALL fairings and covers that I can. everything will be exposed. I think I am the only person here that is taking inspiration from a steel girder bridge. LOL

it sounds like a pretty scetchy design concept to most people, but I have quite a few ideas that will make it a kick ass fighter.

well, I'm finally gonna do something on my FZ today. will be hacking the rear subframe off and start making a patern for the new rearend. will be interesting.

also gotta figure out how hard its gonna be to relocate the battery up under the gas tank where the airbox is now.

I was planning on going with individual pod filters, but I have an idea on how to do something a little different. I'll post pics if it works

OK, so far I have

slid the forks through the tripples about an inch
smoothed the resevior covers
chopped the subframe
fabricated a new subframe
slash cut the axhaust

it looks BADASS!!

I took some pics but it might be a couple days before I get them up.

I thought I had a hookup on an exhaust can, but that seems to have fallen through. SSOOOOO, I took my old can and chopped it in half. its about 10 inches long now. I'll be turning downa new endcap for it from aluminum as soon as I can find a piece big enough to make it out of.

I'll also be starting on the tripples ASAP. I NEED the center to center measurments from an 02 gixxer if ANYBODY OUT THERE can get them for me I would be eternally greatful.

I had 4 of the 7 screw holes in the gas cap tigged shut yesterday, I'm gonna be sanding them smooth and repainting the outer ring in a silverish grey color. then the inner cap will be the same color as the gass tank.

I think I've finally decided on a color scheme. its gonna be a dark grey with metal flake for the majority of everything, black engine, and silverish grey as an accent color.

and a bunch of aluminum that will be either anodized or chromated (not chrome) or just left raw. but nothing polished

I am slowly finnishing the tank. it is primered and getting wet sanded right now. then I'll continue the painting process.

I also coated the new subfram in bedliner yesterday. I'll wait until its dry to make the final verdict but it looks pretty sick so far.

I shortenned the original exhaust canister and tack welded it together, will have to get it tigged at work sometime this week. it looks AWESOME.

I took the front end off too and the biggest best supprise of the week....... the bearings are still good and were well packed in grease. I was expecting to find a jumbled glob of metal dust mixed with grease and dirt. cool

I sanded the holes on the gas cap and started prepping for paint. its gonna look really good.

so, can we get a prize for the most time/paint spent on the tank?

I have 5 coats of primer and 7 coats of finish. I think that'll be it except for the clear coat.

it does look good though.

well, I got my hand gaurds today. not sure if they'll go on the fighter now or not through. I still have a shitload of work to do. and I'm having a hard time getting the stock for the fabrication and machining I still have to do.

I need rims/tires and brakes still. and I emaile wiseco about piston rings about a week ago and still no responce. I guess I'll email them again. oldbikebarn doesn't have the kit I need.

I have to get the jet kit for the carbs, individual air filters and piston rings/ gasket set to get the engine runing to par. then wireing/lights/gauges.

boy do I have a bit to do still. but I think I cna get it done.

oh yeah, and I gotta brace the swinger.

well, I've been kinda busy on the fighter.

I found out how much its gonna cost to rebuild the motor..... HOLY SHIT. I hate owning an obscure bike. makes shit so friggin expensive.

well, I finnished up the top tripple. it looks sick, I can't find the digital camera or I would post pics.

it looks like the bike won't be finnished for the 26th. which SUCKS!!!! who's up for an extension? it should be done by the buildoff meetup though. I'm really disapointed here. sorry guys.
as I state elsewhere on the site, I was refused a raise (a well deserved raise might I add) at work. thus funding is short for my build. I'm pretty pissed.

I'll have the front end mounted up and have a rolling chassis by the 26th, but the motor will not have been rebuilt like I wanted. and I may not have the gixxer wheels and brakes conversion done.

I am pissed, my boss is fucking with my riding season now. damnit.

so I uploaded a couple pics of the top tripple that is about 95% done. I have yet to finnish sand it and bead blast it. then I'm split on whether to leave it or get it anodized black
