well along with my 'fighter obsession, i also have a "thing" for supermoto's. having owned a 97 ktm 620 duke with s/m clothes, and a seriously nice drz400e that was converted to s/m (this was long before suzuki started building thier factory moto).

i picked this klx300r for free from my friend Mitch (also a new member here). well, i actually traded the bike for a set of z71 rims/tires, but i got the rims/tires from craigslist for free, so still no money involved. it was pretty complete, but someone tore the head off, although now that i have the head in my hand (it was still at a bike shop in NC) i can't for the life of me see anything wrong with it. no cracks, not warped, valves are good, seals are good..

anywho, i figured i'd build a cheap 'tard to beat around on (mostly for parking lot stuning, so i don't destroy my 954). here she is so far. i have a grand total of $125 in the whole bike. picked up a 17x3.5 front rim from ebay for $45, a 17x4.25 rear from supermotojunkie for $50, and it cost me $30 to get the head back from the bike shop. when i got the head back, the tappets were missing, and a new set is $130!! well, i put up a post in another forum stating i was looking for some used tappets if anyone had a junked head/motor laying around. the next day i get an e-mail from a guy in israel, saying he's got a complete set i can have, FOR FREE. doesn't get much better than that. so now i just have to get some spokes to lace up the 17's ($140 for both wheels), and put the motor back together, and she'll be done. grand total spent- $270 !!

not to shabby. though now i'm thinking i may finish it and sell it to fund some other projects. i haven't ordered the spoke kits yet, it might be easier to sell with the dirt rims/tires on it.

well, it didn't look that clean when i got it, i did strip/paint the frame, strip the swingarm, and scrub the hell out of everything. the motor is back in almost 1 piece, just waiting on the tappets to get here from overseas.

it's a 2001, so it's in decent shape, it was just filthy.

lol, well, this time of year is very very slow for me, so i spend alot of time talking to people, and b/s'ing around the internet.

it also helps being well connected in the bike community in my area. everyone knows everyone around here for the most part (in the sportbike scene anyway) and people call me at all hours with deals, b/c they know that i'm always on the hunt for what other people call junk. the last 6 months, that's how i've been making a living. getting "junk" from people for next to nothing (or sometimes free) and fixing it up, making it into something different and interesting, and selling it for alot more than i have in it. it always helps when you enjoy what you do. i also do alot of trading.

well i decided to sell it. need money for other things, such is life.

as it sits right now the motor is not in it, but it's up and rolling. just put new valves in the head , just needs a head and base gasket to get back in one piece. bottom end and trans have been checked out and are in great shape.

looking to get $900 for the whole package including:

the complete bike
17x3 front rim (sun alloy)
17x4.25 rim (sun alloy)
hjc helmet (large)
scott goggles w/ 3 lenses
acerbis chest protector (adult sized)
elbow guards
shin/knee guards
brand new water system w/ extra bite pieces, never had anything but water in it
fox mx gloves (large)

bike will just need finishing, only thing missing is the rear fender.
i hate to even sell it, hell, if i finished it up i could get alot more out of it, but money got real tight, real quick, so it's gotta go.

i don't have much money in it, but i have quite a bit of time in it, so i figure $900 for everything is a fair deal. overall the bike is in great shape, great tires/brakes/etc

the rims alone are worth between $300-$400, just need spokes to lace them up (can be had for $65 per wheel)

well, like i said, cash wise, i don't have much in it. if i don't get any bites in the next few days or so (it's advertised elsewhere also) i may just take a day and finish getting it together. it's alot easier to sell a bike when you can prove that it runs fine, ya know?

i'll let it go for $800 as is without the 17" rims.


on a side note, i may actually be trying to sell the 954 in the near future too. (i never hang on to any bike very long, lol) my friend just picked up an '06 ktm 560 SMR, and i know if i get a chance to ride it, i'm gonna want another supermoto for the street this summer.

something like that, lol. i just spend alot of time browsing around. everyone and thier brother in my area seems to know me, and i get deals brought to my attention on a regular basis.

speaking of which, if anyone is looking for a stunt or track bike, i have a friend selling and 01 gsxr600, all stock other than a slip on and a big sprocket. $1000, but bill of sale only. he bought it to learn to stunt on, but never did, and he's getting shipped over seas for a year or so, so he's just trying to get rid of it. bikes in good shape, runs/shifts fine,etc. has an ugly silver paint job though, lol.

it's not salvage, it's just been thru a few hands and the title was lost somewhere along the way. i imagine if you went thru all the dmv paperwork and b/s you could get the title, i just never looked into it.

trust me, the thought crossed my mind too. hell, for that price, i could even part it and make money. but, i don't have that kinda loot right now either. trying to fund the build off, buying lil 400cc bikes, bills, etc. i'm broke!
