So yeah. I blew the motor on my GS450L. I was hitting the nearby twisties loop on this.. uh... beater bike... it wouldn't go over 30 mph and the top end was praying to Zeus. Before the motor blew I managed to waste a couple of Harley softtails through the curves with a bike that was decelerating at full throttle...

So what motors do you guys think will drop in this thing besides another 450? It's a 1985

Pretty much an GS series engine would work, with a little bit of ingenuity. We have a customer who put a GS750 engine into a GS450L.

I saw a conversion for the GS500 motor, was a little extreme but very cool. Took a GSXR head cut off the outer two cylinders and then 85 mm pistons from a GSXR1000 to 1300 kit and made a GSXR650 twin. Seems the cylinder and crankcase was almost exactly the same as a GSXR1000 with the outer cylinders removed.

Just food for thought. Another option would be a SV650 or SV1000 motor which is narrow enough to make installing it easier.

I'm kind of voting for a SV650 one, would make a neat fighter.

I know that any GS-series twin motor will pretty much bolt right in (400/425/450/500). I was under the understanding, though, that the I4 motor frames were wider at the two bottom engine cradle rails, and you would have to chop the frame up to get the I4 in there.

BTW, 3 weeks ago I was about to jump the gun and swap in a GSX600/750 (Katana) motor in.:suzuki::party:

The SV650 engine is longitudinal and probably wouldn't fit in the GS450's cradle frame without extensive fuckery.

Thanks. It's way narrower than my GS750 frame was.

You could find a slightly older 2 stroke 500, that would put some hair on your chest!!!! Not to mention it would definitely fit. Oh wouldn't that be fun?

A Yamaha TDM 850 might work also. Its actually a pretty short motor, just a little tall. Would have to measure it to be sure.
