I bought a fuel tank for my '95 GSX-R 1100W - the one I received takes the normal 3 hose connections at the petcock, another for the drain from the tank overflow (straight down from the tank's bottom), but then there's another j-shaped connection coming out of the bottom that points toward the rear of the tank. My old tank (from a 750) didn't have that one.

Can anyone tell me what the extra connection is for?

There is on the '95 GSX-R 1100. It's on the top of the tank, a hose runs from there through a hole in the nut on the triple clamp.

I think this is a "wet" connection - i.e., gas runs through it. But if so, I don't know where it goes. So I'm looking for somebody who's seen this tank before and knows what the proper connection is. I'm wondering if it's from a later model - '96 - '98?

Thanks.

There - files were too big originally. It's the one with the red cap.

Thanks,
Fucked if i know what its for and i know Old Skool Gixers inside out, looking at the pics it looks like it's been added to the original tank, could be wrong cos you guys got everso sightly diffrent models to us. no help at all i know but in ten years of working with gixers i,ve never come across an extra pipe. sorry dude

I know a buddy old gixxer like that had a vent.. when you pop the gas cap there was a little hole just on the outside of the filler hole for the fuel. Like if gas came out of the tank around the top ring, it would go threw that little hole and run out the vent in the bottom and out a rubber hose. I got a yamaha tank that does the same thing..

If theres nothing in the tank blow some air in the bottom inlet there on your tank and see where the air comes out

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it... BUT.... say there was an explosion in your gas tank, it will want to go the easiest route to get out.... aka the gas cap, right into your chest and face.... with a vent below, there is a good chance the explosion would take that route instead and blast downwards, thus not frying you.... I could be completely wrong here, but in my head it seems to make sense! :LolLolLolLol:

To all previous - I figured it out, finally. What I bought is a tank for a Kalifornia politically-correct GSX-R model - those bikes have a carbon canister system that is supposed to keep Kalifornians from breathing bad stuff (that they can't otherwise smoke). The j-tit takes a hose that runs into that system. Also, the Kalifornia bikes don't allow for a full fuel load - the tank isn't vented to allow filling beyond the bottom of the extended filler neck. I made a vent system that allows me to add almost an entire US gallon AFTER the tank is "Kalifornia full".
