I think I want a set of hand guards, partially for looks, partially for cold riding.

What I am looking for is a thin metal bar that'll toughen up the look, and possibly be able to bolt on a wind deflector when needed.

Anyone have any experience with any? Cheaper is better, obviously... but I don't want something extremely cumbersome, awkward, and bulky either.
There's a couple cheapies on ebay, and there's also the TrackSide brand from cycle gear.

With wind deflector...

Better pics of trackside stuff, but on vstroms...

They'd be going on this bike, and more than likely either color matched to wheels, or black with a red lead edge...

Will they end up being ginormous and ugly trying to clear those big levers? I plan to change mirrors... so that isn't a problem.

Any input is welcome.

Huh... figured I'd get SOME input on this.

I saw that KTM has some pretty nice looking ones, but they're $20 for the gaurd, then $40 for the "mounting kit"

As for some of the "universal" ones... they seem to be for minis/small dirt bikes.

I had that exact same bike, its a wheelie champ if you're not a sissy ;)

Hand guards were great for breaking the wind in cold cold weather, Also on one of my "spirited" lane splitting adventures this dude thought he would be slick and cut over and CHOMP, I had to glance behind me to see his mirror on the ground, My fucking hand guard ate it!

I also mounted a mirror like this and i was set.

I just don't care for the Buell guards... they are huge and don't match the curves of the bike. Also, I want the brass knuckle kind of look in summer... no way I want wind guards in this 95+ degree weather.

too big IMO...
