Alright you guys can you help me go through my options if i wanta put bars on my cbr? I would like to just do flat bars not motocross ones , but that doesnt really matter. What i need help with is installing and finding risers? I know alot of guys do it and I think this is something essential for the DIY section
Thanks
Scotty

A lot of us make custom risers. Get risers from another bike, drill holes in your top triple clamp and bolt them on. You can also buy an LSL or similar handlebar kit and just make/use bars that do what you want.

i've considered welding mine.

i did just drill thru the tripple and mount the dirtbike risers there. but i was considering welding it as well. Never really had any problems from not welding it tho, might have actually saved me from bending/breaking my forks when i looped a wheelie tho.

i can post up a DIY for dirtbars sometime soon. i'll be drilling for a new setup!

Welding is kind of a bad idea.
A weld is a lot more likely to break and leave you riding down the road with no handlebars than a drilled triple clamp is.

Welding is also a lot more work... If you have certain kinds of triple clamps, you can't drill them, but you'd be better off then modifying a triple clamp from another bike to work than welding risers on.

I have a cbr 954 and did a LSL bar kit on it. I priced it out for the kit at my local shop and it was pretty pricey but I was lucky and found the kit on eBay for a fraction of the cost used. The LSL kit comes with everything you'll need like bars, a custom upper triple tree with risers, extended SS braided brake lines, extended clutch cable, and mine actually came with extended throttle cables too. I paid $130 for the kit plus shipping but it was well worth it. Check out

The kit is made by spiegler and you can navigate through the site to find a local dealer that can order it for you. But honestly you should keep a close eye on eBay and save yourself a good amount of coin!

some top tripples would be fine to weld on the risers. but not so much on the older bikes (ie yours and mine) its not such a good idea. the tripples were cast. and it was generally what is known as a large grain casting. basically a couple steps up from pot metal. although it can be welded by a good welder, the tension caused by the heat of the weld can caused some serious problems. namely weakening of the casting, cracking, warping, and stress fractures.

I saw a picture and read an article on a site where the builder used 1/8 steel cut on a band saw to match the center section of the tripple tree. Drilled through the steel the cast tree and made some of what looked like 1/2" thick washeresk pieces to fit in the casted base and it was concelled and the guy weighed like 250LB's and was doing high chairs on it without it breaking!

OUCH...says mine is $320 !!! I am guessing you didn't get yours right from Spiegler, right?

For $320, I can get a whole new front end I can screw up completely, the do it all over again!

LSL kits are the top of the line when it comes to price, finish, and quality in handlebar kits. I bought mine because I like the Superbike bars and the Hayabusa's top triple can't be drilled.. I'd have to fit another bike's triple and drill it or buy enough machine equipment to make a tophalf.

I guess I wasn't thining the other day when I went to the local shop and ordered my risers and bars. I am running a set of black renthal's, and a set of raised risers. Is the spacer block a neccesity?? Or can I change the placement of the bars?? Help...
