Greetings all,
I am new to this streetfigher thang so am looking forward to some good advice. My current ride is a 1999 Fireblade RRX, pretty untidy at the moment. Its perfect for some conversion however and I have some simple ideas to ease me in to this.
I'm a 50 year old undergraduate studying English Literature. I live in Forfar, Scotland with the wife and kiddies. Have been a biker for about 32 years but never been much of a hands on guy when it comes to doing any work on them. It's about time I changed that.
I came across some wicked pics of converted Blades and have decided to take some tentative first steps. I am going to keep this bike simple, then hopefully move on to major projects once my ability matches my confidence!
So please go easy on me and don't bamboozle me with stuff only the truly talented could understand. Looking forward to some good posts.

Welcome to CF......

You're one lucky bastard living anywhere near yan. Take advantage of his skills knowledge and shop. I'm sure he would be more than willing to help out another Scott. Post pics of your bike we like seeing what the shit looks like before it gets fightered
Cheers fella. Do you mean Ian, is yan a typo? I don't know who you mean anyway. Can you tell me where this shop is?

Thanks for the welcome y'all. I will get a pic up of my Blade as soon as I get it out of winter storage in the next few weeks hopefully. Just in case there's some initial advice out there, here's what I plan to do with it. It's just going to be a simple project, not too many mods. Want to see how this goes before I maybe bang on with a full blown project with a dedicated spare bike...just not this one.
I've had the Renthal bar/riser conversion done already. Want to take of the left/right front panels and inner panels, but can see some problems already. I need to get the electrics moved under the right inner panel but don't have a scooby what to do. Going to remove the nose cone and fit twin lights. Want to get a nice stainless radiator cover and coloured hoses. Might put a jazzy clocks unit on as well, depending on cost.
I've already had seats beautifully re-covered and had clear light lenses fitted. Want to try get 17" VFR wheel for front...if not just get existing rims powder coated. Have some bad issues though with seized nuts (on the wheels Mrs)!
Gonna get some other trick bits and pieces, like pegs. Want a shorty can, but might consider cutting down my existing one if I can get help to do it.
That's about all I think. Like I said, this is the first time for me and I want to keep this bike for commuting. The new bars alone make it a real blast. In future, would like to go the full hog on something else, just waiting to get some experience and inspiration.
