I just found this forum and I really wish I had found it when I did my build. Very cool site you have here.

I built this fighter 2 years ago out of a 2001 Yamaha R1. I loved that bike, most everyone else hated it because they saw i when it had full fairings and was a "Pretty" red color.

I wish I had more pics, but I crashed it and got rid of it before I got a chance to take more pics.

The overflow I made some brackets and mounted up a CO2 tank. The dash I made a bracket and had it mounted under the support bar of the rethal twin walls. The paint was a matte black with a no gloss clear over it. Tell me what you think. I have a 2005 Yamaha R1 "Raven" right now and I am seriouslly considering turning it into a fighter. If I do, it won't be for a few months because I should be moving from NY to Cali within the next few months.

Looks (looked) good! Can you tell me exactly how your made that overflow? I'm looking at doing something similar but I can't figure out what to use to attach the hose. Did you have an overfill drain on it also?

Nice rides....I may have to "borrow" that overflow bottle idea...its the first one that I have seen that I like a lot.

I have a Sportster..Nice oldschool bike.

Thanks guys.

For the overflow, I used the preexisting radiator holes (For the stock overflow) and built little brackets to set the bottle back and as close to the bike a s possible. I bought a CO2 bottle and unscrewed the top. Then I got a rubber plug that fit in there tight, and drilled out two holes in the rubber plug. In one I put in a hose adapter for the coolant line, and the other I put in a hose adapter for a vent. Pretty simple setup, but it worked well. I used exhaust clamps to mount it up. Wish I had better pics.

Thanks guys.

Everything could use a flat black paint job. Here is a pic of the '05, factory flat and gloss black, and will probably become a fighter over the next few months. The only thing I will miss about the plastics are the windshield spikes, which I will have to tap into the fighter somewhere.

I agree it does look good with the plastics. However, anyone can have that same bike by going to the dealer. Plus, I got SO much more attention with the last fighter than I've ever gotten with either bike with the plastics. I think I'm going to use a harley vrod headlight this time. The only problem I can forsee will be what to do with the airintake holes in the frame. I'll have to look into it. At least with this one I won't have to do anything with the coolant overflow because it's hidden from the factory. I'll keep everyone posted on my decision. All I have to worry about now is getting my phone call as to when to move to SoCal. Thanks again for the comments.

woohoo! sounds like your pretty much sold!

yes. the swingarms on those bikes are dead sexy! too bad about the one theyre running on the 07's ugh. well i guess some people with the new bike may end up swapping for an OLDER swingarm for their R1's haha.

def. keep us posted. cant wait to see the progression!
