I purchased a koso temp gauge...


The sensor need to be located in a coolant hose...


Does it matter if it is on the lower or upper coolant hose????


Anybody have any idea?

On a gen 1 Z1000 the sensor is in the back of the coolant manifold, which is centered underneath the tank. The sensor on the left side of the rad is for the fan.

You'd want the hot side for a temp gauge, which on a Z is the right side of the bike going into the top-right corner of the rad. The bottom-left is the "cool" side back to the pump and engine. Pretty universally the water is warmed as it goes "up" in the system and cooled as it goes "down".

I'd caution against removing the stock sensor, since the ECU uses this to tune the fuel injection for cold/hot starting.
