hello every one i have got a streetfighter build going already but i though i would start a tread over here about my cr 250.

its a 1986 cr 250 i brought it for £500 of a mate it had been sat in the back of his garage for years it used to be his dads so he dident know much about it so he sold it to me for penuts realy and his dad raced it so it has got a few engine mods already. (bigger jets carbon reads and a slight port and polish i think)

any way like i said it was draged out of his garage a few good kicks and away it went i then raced it about half a dozen times as it was with out any problems but it was a bit low on power so over the winter (a few years ago now) i put a new piston in it and found that the power valves were fucked hence the low power then funds got tight so it has just sat there since.

the plan is to finish my cbr fighter then im going to start on this i dont want to modify it to much just restor it realy i gunna strip and rebuild it with a new lick of paint and a polish along the way i have a reel love for this bike as it a 86 modle and is the same year i was born and also my race number.

the few thing i alredy know are fucked are the water pump housing (as with most older cr's cos of the magnisium content in the ally) the power valves are fucked too and the front wheel has coroded on the inside so the tire dosent seat properly and its got a bit tatty after all of the abuse its been trough in its long life (just like me lol)

i will post pics up in a bit i have them just not got time atm :robssmilie:

as promised some pics...

i love these two pics makes it look like a monster :robssmilie:

i am missing the cover from the top of hpp valve got lost when i moved.

if you look where the hose goes in to the water pump you can see chemical metal this was to fix the corrosion it held up ok but i want to replace it if ican

also i dont think this is the right shock for this bike if any one knows please let me know.

Love the Rick Johnson red/blue with gold wheel color combo these bikes had, such a classic look!

What is the rear shock on there, seems to be aftermarket?

thanks buddy.
not shure what the shock is i was hoping some one on here would know its prety crap to be honest but saying that its not set up for my weight (10st) and i dont have much ecpirenc in moto cross so dont realy know what it should feel like but the arse end jumps all over the place over the bumps.
as for the colour i was thinking of painting the frame white red plastics and polishing all the ally and posibly the wheels depends if they need it or not if the gold finish is still good i will leave them.
but i am open to ideas.
i see a lot of classics done like this and they are a reel eye catcher going round the track and just sat in the pits .
i am at moto cross almost every weekend cos i marshal/race with my local club (marshal more than race) so i see a lot of different bikes and i love the older ones especially when they are kicking the arses of the new four stokes lol.

Nice bike…..love the old CR’s something about them made em look scary to ride….and they were.

Regarding your water pump, I did up an 84 model for my ex boss and it suffered the same problem. Sorry to sound negative but I believe like him, you will go through the same difficulty trying to find another in good condition . A new old stock came up for sale here in oz at the time of the build, he was going to bid $250 for it and it sold for…. get this, $526 just for the cover….in the end it was repaired by me.

good luck with the build will definitly be watching. :)

i love it too so much fun to ride always puts a smile on my face
i posted a reply on your thread regarding the water pump.
like you say you wont get an old one in good nick cos they all sufered the same problem to much magnisium in the ally but i know people who have put later model cases/water pump on but i cant remember what year i do know it has the inspectin cover.
also there is a company in the uk that make them and they are about £100 but i need to look in to this to see if they do one for my year bike.
this wont be happening just yet as i need to finish my cbr first i can only aford to do one at a time..:robssmilie::robssmilie:

Just a little up date!
I took my front tire of only to find the rim has corroded from the inside it so bad the wheel is a write off so im on the look out for another one.
Then I got a little bored the other day and decided to see if the cbr rims would fit.
I only had time to cheack the front one quick I had to take the right disc of to clear the forks then its just a matter of working out the spindal and spacers needed and a caliper bracket.

I still need to cheak what needs to be done for the rear wheel to fit and needs a full re build but I like where its going!!!!!!
