got the headlights working today. gotta secure the wires and everything. mounted the number plate by soldering the zipties to the number plate then tiptieing it to the forks. (gee i love zipties!!!). and then i started grinding and cutting up the subframe with my new angle grinder.
what do you all think???
i can raise/lower the tail as of right now... but am gettin it welded with a middle support sometime this week.

Looks like your doing a real high pointy tail like the guys accross the pond?

As for the front end, its different. Cant say that I hate it, its just not up my alley. Nice work.

lol! no man. its like welding plastic basically. take your ziptie, put it against the plastic piece, use a soldering iron to melt the two plastics together. i suggest practicing first before you mess up a piece lol. i practice on an old cut up piece of tail section i had layin around.
theres a write up in the aesthetics part of the site i think that brit joe did.

This may be a stupid question but is that a standard subframe that has been modified or one that has been fabricated specially? I ask because that is exactly the sort of thing I was going to get fabricated when I have the funds to fighter my VFR and it would save me a load of cash if I could modify an existing frame. Thanks,

Shambla

Edit: Just had a search on ebay and it looks a lot like the front half of a stock subframe from a GSXR 600/750 SRAD. If this is the case would someone be willing to measure a few things on it for me? It would be extremely helpful. Cheers people.

Zipties are what cheap people use to fix cracked plastics :)

Lookin good, tell us how those lights work way down there. I'd be concerned that other people won't notice themas well.
indeed they are. and the lights are extremely bright and usually people tend to see things out of the ordinary. and people would probably wonder why there are two lights so close to the ground and close together... thats my thought process. either way you still cant count on people seein you either way.

and yes that was the original subframe. i used my new angle grinder from wal mart... best thing ever... to cut it up. the front part is stock but the two back pieces i just cut and bent together.
what do you need measured?

Hi Invincible, thanks for the quick response. The main things that would be useful to know would be:

From above: the width of the subframe where it mounts to the frame itself (both at the top pair of mounting points and the bottom ones)

From the side: the height of the subframe where it mounts to the frame (i.e. the distance between the top set of mounting points and the bottom set) and finally the length of the top horizontal pieces

Hope that all makes sense. Anyway, cheers dude its much appreciated

the mounting points to the frame are top:6.5" and bottom:11.75" and the horizontal cross brace is 9.5"
the mounting points is from the outsides of the subframe and the horizontal piece is from the insides... i couldnt get the outsides because i chopped parts of it off... sorry.
but hope that helps a little bit.

cut up the seat a little, got all the headlight wiring straightened out and routed, got the seat pan drilled, and got the tank back on. i also cut off some excess wiring like the original headlight wires... hope that doesnt mess with anything.

Thanks again dude. So basically the red line in the attached pic is 6.5" and the blue is 11.75", but when you say the horizontal cross piece is 9.5" do you mean the green line or the yellow?

Project is coming along nicely btw - look forward to seeing some more progress
