alright i've been checking this site(kick ass) for like 3 months and finally decide to join. i throw together a 96 vfr 750f i bought cheap. mostly stock minus all the plastics. rocking galfer braided brake lines and street pads, K&N filter, moded air box, stage one jet kit, 2bros carbon slip on. ill throw pics up when i get a chance. problem i'm having is the front end bottoms out and then bounces up and down causing the front wheel to lock. i replaced the seal and am running 10wt about 5mm higher then stock. only have preload adjustment so. i know revalving and racetech springs would help but im a married full time student so low cash flow. any cheap ideas?(springs from other bikes, whole front end swap from a easy to find bike)

I dont know much about your model, pics would help. if it is NOT an upside down shock and is anything like mine, Then you can do a temporary fix (might work permanant) of opening the top of the fork. taking the spacer out, checking spacer size, and adding 1-3 inches of pvc pipe to space it out more. you may want to use thicker oil also.

well i can't get the damn photos to load.(got dial up cause i live in the county) ill try again later.
well any way the forks are just standard telescopic forks. they have like a 4inch steel spacer stock so i think that kinda kills the pvc idea. originally used 5wt i think so i thought 10wt would be a decent step up. not to question your thought but wouldn't 80wt blow the seals since it would be compensating for shit springs? man i hate being broke! i set my sag a little on the stiff side but it still does the same thing.

Heavier weight oil will slow up your damping (and help cure the pogo effect), but won't fix the forks bottoming out. That's just tired springs. More pre-load spacers may help, but it may just bottom out quicker. Try 20 w oil and move up / down from there. Ultimately, new springs or complete front end swap is the go.

thanks for the answers/ideas. ill try a spacer about a 2inches longer(easier to cut it down then to hack another one) and thicker oil. where can i pick up 20wt? could i use staright 30wt engine oil and mix with 10wt? any one using sonic springs? thier like 85 bucks for my bike so soon hopefully. im a diesel mech by trade but am learning motorcycles mechcanics now. but you really only learn to work on "stock" stuff so. oh i should mention its my only form of transportation. the wife use the car for work so i can only mess around on weekends. the bike see's about 700 miles a week so im trying to make it so i don't kill my self as the cagers here try hard enough as it is. thanks again.
p.s. how the hell do you resize pic's. mine are like 2megs so?

for the pics... if you have paint you can go to edit and stretch/skew then put in like 50% or somethin... just make the two numbers the same, and then you can keep shrinking it like that or make it bigger if you get too small. then just save and post.

i figured that but ive never seen fork oil much thicker then like 15wt. hell most bikes use like 5wt,ATF,or even thinner shit. does bel ray sell thicker stuff? all the dealers around me suck.(personal i think phoenix sucks) not like back east. most of the indie shops out here are HD shit. guess when i get my vet school assitance check from uncle sam i'll have to tell the wife im getting new springs.

ok heres some pics from my cell phone. ill post better ones later. one is when i bought it and tore off all the busted up fairing stays and broke brackets. it had no lights at all no gauges, exhaust was just hanging on, and tore up wiring but it ran great and had a clear title. the other is with it semi road legal, and the last one is kinda as it is now.

thanks dude. well i have been looking in to dirt bike bars(the clip ons kill my wrist) but have to wait a bit. on the tail i just got it when i bought the bike(at the time i had never seen what my bike was suppose to look like in person) and its gotta stay till i get back east(january) and i get a real job again. but yeah i agree. also want like a r1 or cbr 1000 front end. and some catless exhaust headers. plus some real gauges(rockin nothing but a bike speedo) yeah its a working in progress(i have to ride it pretty much everday) which is why i call it my Hooligan Hack.
