Hey guys i recently purchased a rather expensive (wasnt supposed to be lol) project, anyways its a 1975 yamaha dt 250, had the crankcase inspected and new seals put in, autolube doesnt work so im running block off for premix and this is an air cooled bike

not COMPLETE rebuild but should i still run a break in process

>>What kind of crankcase oil
>>premix oil is recommended

How often does the crankcase oil need changed

and what is the premix ratio recommendation?
Ive read articles that say 20:1, some said 30-32:1, and even as high as 50:1

As always thanks in advance you guys are always great

The only crankcase oil is for the transmission. You can just run 10w-40 motorcycle oil for the trans.

If its not a daily driver, changing the trans fluid once a year should be plenty.

When I worked at a bike shop, I would recommend Yamalube 2-R for premix. There are others such as Klotz, etc but the 2-R worked well enough. Normally a 30-32:1 ratio works for the older bikes.

Later, Doug

Thanks guys, i called the shop that had the case apart and he recommended 20-50 castrol oil and klotz (if available for premix.

To me 20-50 seems really thick or am i just thinking motor oil?
he also recommended no break in process (new crank bearings)

and i know the oil question is like asking what shampoo you use lol is there a better oil for the trans? ive heard klotz tossed arround for premix so i think thats what im gonna run even if i gotta get it over the int
