2 questions:

First, anyone ever painted their radiator? I mean the whole thing? I would think that it would be fine, but I didn't know if putting an extra coating of paint on the fins would be an issue. Any thoughts??

Second, Anyone ever made use of those SS hose cover kits? The kind that are grosly overpriced at autozone? (see pic) I'd wondering if they'd fit the hoses on a bike.

I looked at them also and i couldn't figure out how i could use them because they all had threaded fittings on them and not like that on the bike.I guess you could cut the fittings off and clamp them on ?? If you figure it out post up i liked the idia also !!

I do think painting the fins wouldn't be good. Hows about a cover or something like i made for mine in my build off thread ???

I already have a cover on the front of the radiator that is black, but my radiator is curved and from the side you see the sides of the radiator as well as part of the backside of the fins. I'm going to paint the sides for sure, but I'd like to paint the back side fins as well just to finish it off.

I know the SS hose covers are threaded, I can get around that. I'm more interested in the sizing, if it would fit the hoses. The kits are made for cars, and I'd think that car hoses would be if anything bigger...

Certain paints are okay to paint your radiator with and certain ones aren't. We've had this discussion before on this board, and it was conclusively decided that someone with a temp gauge should paint an extra radiator and tell us if their bike overheats.

The important thing is to make sure the paint can handle 250F or so.

Edit: Oh, painting the back sides of the radiator? Nothing to worry about there.

meah, thats about what I figured everybodys response would be. I think I'll go for it then.

Anybody with more info on those hose covers?? I just lost an auction for a rare 2-1 yoshi system for my 250 so I need to impulse buy something to appease my frustration :D

I was thinking of having my radiator anodized, does anyone think that would be a problem. The radiator paint would look good for a while but I'm not sure it would last.

An anodized radiator... now THAT would be interesting....

It'd be tricky, first, to get all paint off thats already on the radiator, also you'd have to block off all the holes real well, or else you'd end up anodizing the inside of the rad, then also theres the question of the heat resistance of anodizing... it may do something funky if the metal heats too much.

It'd be worth trying though. I'll have to give it a shot when I get an anodizing shop setup. All I need is a place to keep tanks full of acid:ninja:

i think the issue, if any would be witht he fins. I know that is why you cant powder coat them...you could also fabricate covers for the sides from aluminum and anodized them...if done right would probably look cool

Lightly painting the rads won't hurt FA, the stuff you showed there looks like the Russel hose covering (good idea THANKYOU), it just slips over your existing hose and inside the red anodised covers is a standard hose clamp (gear clamp)......Should be fine if you can get the right sizes.
