Re: Pariah's BOAST

So I'm pretty limited in terms of space at camp, but I did get a chance to have a play with some tools last week (cos I'd finished all my shit at polytec) and so I decided to bust out some heel guards. Pretty proud of them, cost me $30NZ in paint and prep materials and all done by hand.

Don't have final paint and fitted pictures cos it's pissing down outside, but I'll put 'em up when I do.

PS: a pic of my mate fast asleep at 3:30am on a thursday... Four hours later we handed him a rifle. He was still pissed, natch.

The Importance Of Stainless Fasteners, A Trivial Matter For Serious People.

Zinc plated v stainless? No competition. In other news, gonna get it powdercoated when I get around to it. BTW full tail swap (again) in about a week. Wheeeee!

Re: Pariah's BOAST

Alright! Lots of work done last week but no time to write it up til now. So here we go.

Started out 1/10/10 looking like this

Then I packed her up for the 400km ride down

Next day dawned... After I'd been on the road for an hour. Waiting at the ferry terminal...

The couple on the Sprint ahead of me made me laugh, proved to me that you don't need a tourer to go touring, a streetfighter (albeit stock) will do! :shocker:

Saw this and thought of Phoebe

As we neared the South Island I started to get a gauge on the weather... Lookin' good!

Funny little island in the middle of this bay

Halfway home I met up with my dad and a few riding buddies from when I lived down here, was good to see the new bikes and catch up on the bullshit

Check out the dualsport rear tyre... Yeah Rick takes his Bonnie offroad.

The group who met up with me, plus one guy I knew who we happened to come across. That's my dad, hard right, pretending like he's hard with a fully blacked out helmet.

Chilling at a gas stop just before we got into town, the silver SV1000 and Guzzi belong to Seona. The Guzzi is the one that messed up my numberplate (and my head) halfway through December last year, she rebuilt it after the accident and is now selling the SV to keep the Guzzi.

Finally home, set up in the garage, time to DW!

A few parts need to go on...

So a few parts needed to fall off.

Tail looks almost like Steve Morton's MT01 when it's stripped back. Maybe a nice naked subby for the next incarnation?

My jukebox and the reason I postwhored the fuck out of the forum last week!

Stripped all the way down... Again

Mocked up a bobber for shits and gigs, might look better with clipons

And with the tank off so I can rewire the indicators

Polished up a few bolts, just cos I could and it looks sexier

G-H-E-T-T-O-F-A-B

But, result!

Re: Pariah's BOAST

One of my jobs was to fit up some new indicators, so I mocked up a few options

No prizes for what one I went for. And now my favourite job in any build, fucking painting. Last paintjob (you may remember) was done after and before work over 2 days, I pulled a couple of 1-2am finishes with 5-6am starts to get it sorted for a bike show. Gotta fix those mistakes...

Once that bastard was sanded I needed to make up some brackets for my indicators.

Drilled out to suit

Test fitting

Fitted the lower support, notching the bracket to get around a bend in the OTHER bracket.

Then my brain went fizz! and I realised I could put my indicator bracket BEHIND my other bracket.

Angled properly

And more ghettofab bending

Testfitting

And once they were trimmed to fit, paint time!

Lookin' sexy

Now my last battery box was an ugly horrible fibreglass thing, so I decided to have a proper one made up out of 1mm stainless. Enter mockup CF.com batree.

This'll do!

Pretty tight but barely visible, that's what we're after.

Time to get the numberplate mounted. On hinges because I don't know what angle it'll need to be at. Ahem.

That, plus this

Equals this

Of course not everything goes smoothly. Like the fact that the metalworkers couldn't do my battery box til I was out of town. Fuck. Oh well, more ghettofab shit. Pop rivet gun and a few bits of cheap galv to the rescue!

BTW, cutting in a straight line with a cheap hacksaw is a PITA.

That's the base plate cut and bent to shape, now for the supports

Fits alright!

Re: Pariah's BOAST

Few rivets and we'll be in business.

Fucking sorted.

By now my brackets were painted so I fitted them up and wired the indicators together

While I was fucking around I noticed this. Mounting tab for this sensor had been broken off at the last service, superglued back together and the sensor left loose. Not fucking happy. Emailed the guys and they offered to plasticweld the airbox back together and gave me $200 store credit as an apology. Who knew good guys were still in business?

Anyway, more bracket business. On the left, my original shitty fibreglass indicator brackets. On the right, the start of my new one.

Much nicer

Unfortunately my temporary battery box let the electrics touch the exhaust link. Not so good. So I figured this was skully's way of telling me to wrap my pipes. Just did the link for now, more to follow when I get a full system :D

Starting to come together! Fucking well took me long enough.

Wanted to do something sexier but wound up using my old reservoir from the last time I used this tail.

Almost there...

FUCKING FINISHED!

And now the photo shoot.

Road closed due to earthquake repairs.

So that was my week. What'd you guys do?

thanks for the complement. I really appreciate it. I've done a couple sets of bars. One set for my rc51, a set for Fathead and these. probably a couple more sets soon.

Pariah gave me a list of what he wanted in bars and I designed from there. I really like it when people give me the go ahead to design something. it makes my job more fun and interesting.

Re: Pariah's BOAST

Yup, props to flint. He took some pretty vague parameters and some pretty crappy drawings and made something incredibly sexy for an incredibly good price. Less than a set of fatbars from Triumph wtf?

Re: Pariah's BOAST

This is why I'm glad Flint's doing my bars for me, and why I'll be sending him any more machining work in the future.

Good news is I made some risers today. The bad news is I didn't like how they looked so I pitched them. Attempt number two will commence next week
