rdannars YAMAHA FZR1K headcase
new thread as I feel like the motorcycle is in its last overhaul. I bought this motorcycle with full fairings in tact for around 1400 hundred I believe and then within the first week I had her stripped down looking like shit when it was naked. This was my second streetfighter and by far the biggest project of the two that I have done. My plans were to make a high bulky tank and a solo small seat. Then the speed of having it done by the build off was a lot of pressure and I made a lot of mistakes, cut a lot of corners, and just got it done. So I have been slowly taking all of the cut corners and fixing them up to be more of a stable every day ride. Especially since it was no where near being able to pass state inspection. So the project continues with trying to give it the look I want while trying to make it inspectable.
enough chatter so hear are some pictures of what I started with.
then after adding these parts
R1 tank and cover
r1 upside downers
to eventually look like this at the build off
I drove it around and it was extremely uncomfortable and wasn't happy with the look and feel of it so I decided to use this tank I had as an extra and start over with a completly new look and subframe. I wanted the tank to be higher and since I am 6foot3 I wanted it to be a taller bike with very few wires and no battery showing.
added this spare r6 tank
Then I decided to make this subframe and grabbed a brake assembly from my gs550 I have laying around
then I made up some side panels out of a plastic bin, relocated the battery to the front of the gas tank, rewired the entire bike to hide the wires, added a license plate light, made a panel to cover the top of the frame out of the same plastic box/bin that I make the side panels with, added a led integrated tail light from an rc51, added led turn signals, made a stable headlight clamp, put on a sigma bike speedometer, trimmed the seat mold and recarpet it, made a metal rear tire hugger and bolted her on. Know she looks like this.
Also got a new ceramic header and cut up my old exhaust as that was the last rusty bit on the bike
headlight bracket
rear fender
integrated brake light
here she is as she sits today
for the final frontier I am going to clean everything up, probably make a new rear seat,
I have just ordered a 190 rear tire, tire levers and protectors so I can change my own tires, clipons from an r1 to use as I really dont like the high bars on this project, Alot of finish work and odds and ends like saving up for a speedometer.
