rdannars YAMAHA FZR1K headcase

new thread as I feel like the motorcycle is in its last overhaul. I bought this motorcycle with full fairings in tact for around 1400 hundred I believe and then within the first week I had her stripped down looking like shit when it was naked. This was my second streetfighter and by far the biggest project of the two that I have done. My plans were to make a high bulky tank and a solo small seat. Then the speed of having it done by the build off was a lot of pressure and I made a lot of mistakes, cut a lot of corners, and just got it done. So I have been slowly taking all of the cut corners and fixing them up to be more of a stable every day ride. Especially since it was no where near being able to pass state inspection. So the project continues with trying to give it the look I want while trying to make it inspectable.

enough chatter so hear are some pictures of what I started with.

then after adding these parts

R1 tank and cover

r1 upside downers

to eventually look like this at the build off

I drove it around and it was extremely uncomfortable and wasn't happy with the look and feel of it so I decided to use this tank I had as an extra and start over with a completly new look and subframe. I wanted the tank to be higher and since I am 6foot3 I wanted it to be a taller bike with very few wires and no battery showing.

added this spare r6 tank

Then I decided to make this subframe and grabbed a brake assembly from my gs550 I have laying around

then I made up some side panels out of a plastic bin, relocated the battery to the front of the gas tank, rewired the entire bike to hide the wires, added a license plate light, made a panel to cover the top of the frame out of the same plastic box/bin that I make the side panels with, added a led integrated tail light from an rc51, added led turn signals, made a stable headlight clamp, put on a sigma bike speedometer, trimmed the seat mold and recarpet it, made a metal rear tire hugger and bolted her on. Know she looks like this.

Also got a new ceramic header and cut up my old exhaust as that was the last rusty bit on the bike

headlight bracket

rear fender

integrated brake light

here she is as she sits today

for the final frontier I am going to clean everything up, probably make a new rear seat,

I have just ordered a 190 rear tire, tire levers and protectors so I can change my own tires, clipons from an r1 to use as I really dont like the high bars on this project, Alot of finish work and odds and ends like saving up for a speedometer.

just a heads up the 190 tires dont fit the stock rear wheel very well, mine seems too balloonish if that makes sense feels really weird in the corners too. im goin with a 180 next season

thanks for the heads up,,, I bout a used one to try it out so will test it and try it for a one season or less, if it doesn't work than it's only 70 dollars waisted. Didn't want to try it with a 200 dollar new tire first... I also have my tire levers coming in the mail to change it out myself
the tires I have on currently have bad dry rot so it can't be worse than chancing riding on them!!

got the clipons installed and relocated the bike speedo. It feels a million times better steering and handling than the straight bars I had set up on them.

Sorry if this was posted somewhere else, just curious.

Is that a lower triple being used as a top triple? If so, why?

Again, just curious.

Thanks
Bob

nope, it is the top one flipped upside down, I had it that way to fit the risers on better so the spacers on the bottom had a flat surface. I will flip them back this winter as the speedometer also stays better with that side right now...

After a lot of messing around with fabricating for this fighter... I have come to a conclusion.... I finally have a solid vision of what I want it to look like and the direction to take to do it... this time I'm completely tearing the bike apart so I can work on the roller and the engine seperatwly and get the whole thing painted one piece at a time. My welding is much better so plan on using sheet metal to make the gas tank shell and subframe covers a one piece unit. Sssa... This time it will be a slow project that takes time as I was confused and rushed trying to sort ideas in my head...

So a nice beefy cafe fighter will be the results with hidden wires and hoses etc.. I want it completely naked with no bikini straps no panties... just pure one off sexiness when I'm done...

Before I start I must begin making room in the man cave... I plan on stripping out the engines on all three motorcycles over the next few weeks and getting my 550 GS project started so I can use that to cafe around town on occasion... as you you can see my 750 shadow is shoved to the front... that needs the most love right now and I can't spread my love enough for her right now...

Plan is engines out... store them in my parents shed... and brake them down to pieces for all the fan work and welding... I have a small hatchback so I need to have the bikes easy to throw in the car for welding and grinding at the rents... damn breakers at the house won't let me do clean welds...

Lots of parts floating around in bins ;-)

Enough psycho babble... some pics...

Drained the tank... coolant... disconnected wire harness... lights... carbs... almost ready to stop the engine... she is filthy so this tear down and rebuild is much needed...
