Im looking to update my 95 zx6r with a new seat and tail section, I would like to buy a modern subframe with seat, tail and undertail attached, im looking all over but I cant seem to find anything as a whole, what subframe seat and tail would work best with this swap? Shoot some ideas at me people, I wouldnt mind trying to save some money on this one as long as it still looks and works good. :skrooz:

Find a couple that you like, the go measure the mounting points at a dealership. You're going to have to, in all likelyhood, cut off the ends of the subframe and weld pieces on so it fits you're frame.

When you go looking fust remember the shape of your tank and see what would snug up the best.

I REALLY doubt you will find a subframe with a seat, tail section and undertail all ready to go.

I can tell you that the 98-02 tail/seat/gas tank swap over with a little modification to the stock subframe

What kind of modifications? I have limited amount of resources! I want to get this done before I start with the paint. I was thinking maybe if it would be possible to cut off the bottom bar on the sub frame and re-enforce the top bar with a piece of metal welded to the frame below it right under the seat. Do you know what the easiest fix for this problem would be. Also what tail would you recommend? I want the simplest solution possible while keeping it looking good. Thanks for your time and help!

Adapt the subframe of the tail you want, or find a tail that fits over your stock subframe and make brackets (unless you plan on putting weight on it)

Or make a custom subframe...

Tails need some solid support unlike some other things. It's a bit of mass that will bust off pretty easy over a hard bump unless it's bolted tight.

The 98-02 ninja tail swaps on but you have to trim the part behind the rear seat. You will also have to make the taillight fit on the subframe. I dont have pictures of how I did it but I just made brackets that came off the seat latch part and held the taillight in position. You will also have to make two attachment points (i drilled holes in the upper subframe rail) so you can bolt the tail on. Im sure there is a better way thats just how I did it though.

my first streetfighter (kind of)

98-02 tank/tail/seat
05-06 fairings (they will fit with a little trimming and some brackets)

so basically there is no cutting of the subframe from the frame at all? Did you keep the same undertail battery box etc.? Also does this tail mod require the updated tank? Thanks for your help man its hard to find people with my bike. Id rather take advice from someone who has been trough it!

I dont remember about the tank, I think I changed it all out at one time. The big thing is that when you take your tail off you have those indents where the tail used to run under the tank, unless you can figure out a way to use the stock front part of the fairing to hide the indents.

You dont cut anything attached to the frame, only minimal cutting to the back end where the taillight goes in order for it to clear properly. Its easier to see/know what needs done when you have the pieces infront of you. The guy gave me the new tail piece when I bought the bike

I just got a set of Honda specific race rearsets off EBAY for my 2000 ZX9. They had the same (well, very close - 60 v 62MM) bolt spacing (just had to enlarge the holes a tad). They are adjustable and were cheap too (AUD $150). Have a look on EBAY ;)
