i have to say that i was suprised the other day when one of my buddies was at my house going over some ideas for the buildoff. i handed him a streetfighter mag to use a picture to show what i was talking about.

he looks thru the mag. then another couple while we're talking. after he puts down the newest one, he tells me, this fuckin magazine sucks.

Mind you i buy this rag EVERY month at $10 a pop, because it is THE only real source for streetfighters in any publication (honerable mention to SSB tho).

so im thinking about why 'this fuckin magazine sucks'...im gonna figure it out. how could it suck? its fuckin STREETFIGHTER magazine, what could be better than that?? well as one person in a letter this month said..'more low budget stuff please'

I've noticed a steady increase in the chroming of streetfighters. wider and wider tires, extended swingarms.

has america reached european streetfighters before we even have a streetfighter culture of our own (we do its still young tho). so, even worse, are our current chopper/hayabusa customs influencing the fighter world??

i can only hope not. the level of customization done to these bikes is phenomenal but the style is ALL the SAME!

streetfighters are about individualism. its a rebel culture. we dont want to fit in with everyone out there. streetfighters came to be, because of wild people on motorcycles not being able to afford new fairings after doing something dumb. I can understand that its come a long way since then...and its becoming so popular that its reaching the main stream. well the main stream, is now, in turn touching IT.

the point is, i buy streetfighter magazine to get away from ALL THE OTHER MAGAZINES! i am so god dam sick of seeing stretched out, lowered, crazy ass blinding painted full fairing pretty ass trailer queen bikes. i want to see somthing crunchy. somehting ridden. something that someone actually put thought into when building, opposed to flipping thru catalogs. When i get a copy of SFmag, it burns my fuckin ass too see not 1, not 2, but at least 3 stretched and lowered...busas. Even the dam poster is either 2 busas doing burnouts or the chick of the month on a 3/4 fairinged glittery purple girls bike!

SOMETHINGS GOT TO GIVE! WTF

amen. i don't get SF free any more, so normally i'll just sit at the local barnes and nobles for an hour and flip thru it. too much crap, not worth my $10. i see far too many blinged out, airbrushed, stretched, lowered bikes every day in person, no need to pay hard earned cash to read about more of them. SSB isn't getting any better either, now that i think about it. have you seen all the metric revolution bikes they've been featuring? yuck.

Re: double diamond down hill! (expert only)

theres a big hoo haa going on between stunters saying that the reason SSB is dropping their stunt coverage is because fucked up ratty looking bikes with scrubby kids wearing hoodies doesnt sell a fuckin thing for the industry.

so only stunters with hot bikes and official gear are being photographed for the mag. i guess even some competitions are doing the same (XDL? - i read that from stuntlife). i can see it from the magazines point of view. obviously selling advertising in the mag is going to make them more money that selling the mag itself...

i could see how that same statement would apply to streetfighters, hence why they are putting more blinged out bikes with bolt on parts in the features. Yes, we do want to see custombikes with one off and home made shit...but they cant sell that or ads for it. . . so they have to cover bikes that highlight the products they are selling...

therefore, the mags sell out.

Re: double diamond down hill! (expert only)

id prefer to see beat to shit bikes the broke asses like me make in their garage as apposed to $30 000 + corporate build bikes
im not sayin that some of those bike are sweet, its just thats its hard for me to relate with a magazine and the bike owners in it if i can never afford a bike anything close to theirs

i just flipped through the second issue of ssb that came and the newest one...WOW what a difference
if any of you have these compare the 2 right now and youll be surprised as fucking hell

Re: double diamond down hill! (expert only)

good idea. do a certain number of crews per issue or something. focus one region at a time....that way i could get all the quality crews with one mag. .

the one showcaseing the Northeast USA!

I just read endo's copies. Haha. I'm so cheap!

But I have to agree that bikes shouldn't look like a sculpture. They're there to be ridden, and you can ask endo, I'm dead set against chrome on a bike. Especially on anything that looks sporty, what's the point of taking a fast bike and adding extra weight in terms of chrome and paint, while messing with the aerodynamics? It's like removing all the luggage from a touring bike then calling it a better tourer... WTF?

Changes made to a streetfighter should improve the performance first, and the aesthetics second. We should start our own magazine. I know some guys with cool bikes, they post here once in a while.

What's SSB stand for?
Super Street Bike

personally, i always looked at SF magazine as the UK's version of The Horse. being that there's a much higher percentage of 'fighters over there than there is in the states, they could always do lower budget stuff, and still keep thier readers, maybe even gain a few. unfortunately, looks like the show fighters are taking over. Such is life when you start getting too main stream. same goes for SSB's stunt coverage. used to be geared more towards the street stunter, but as the scene gets bigger, and more noticed, the everyday stunt rider gets left in the dust, and all you ever see now is the big names on thier sponsored bikes. media can do great things, but they sure can ruin things too. of course, the haters don't help much either. the typical soccer mom sees a magazine with a picture on the cover of a guy doing some insane trick, and she automatically blames the mag as being the reason why that kid on the r1 just blew past her on the interstate on the back wheel. she starts complaining, and the ball starts rolling.....downhill... and we're the ones that get run over in the process.

i could go on and on all day about that, but i'll save it for another time.

we need something set up like The Horse, but geared towards the 'fighters. i'd rather read an article on an old oil cooled zook built by a guy in his garage with a few hundred dollars than someone that just threw a bunch of money at a bike any day. i like seeing how people build custom parts from scratch without having access to mills, lathes, etc. ingenuity goes along way in my book.

Re: double diamond down hill! (expert only)

:dito: Yeah the horse used to be good, I quit buyin' it shortly before I gave up on choppers all together. Even the Horse was gettin' to high class after a while showing too many bikes over $5000 value (not to mention the fact that there are no Harleys under 5 grand anyways). WTF ?. I was worried when entering this buildoff that a bike not fully polished wouln't have a chance, but as I understand more and more of the Streetfighter culture I'm leaning away from the bling (and right into my old flat black days). Seems street fighters may well end up not being the next generation of chopper so much as the next Bobber...... This is more evident when you consider the original bobber derived from Harley guys years ago lookin' for more performance and removing every peice that does nothing for power / speed (kinda like us???). When you see pics of the original bobbers - and I mean old pics - you'll notice there was no thought given to the looks of the bikes at all. Next thing you know it's a style.

All i know is that any bike that I build for me will always be cheap as dirt but yet still attract the most attention at any cruise night.........

G- style

Re: double diamond down hill! (expert only)

so true, i got the most comments on my cheapest builds.

i took my lil xs chop to a local biker bar one night, and actually pissed off the rolex riders because all the hardcore bikers were oogling my $600 bike over thier multi-thousand dollar bling.

$20,000 for a bike? fuck that, that's 20 $1000 dollar bikes :D

character goes a long way, and money can't buy character.

I blame it on them god damn Hayabusa 'riders'

I've never even read Streetfighter magazine, but if they call it streetfighter magazine then shouldn't they only have streetfighters? It doesn't make sense, let alone have taste, to show a Hayaboosie with a Cadillac swingarm.

I guess Im a Purist....
I can see the appeal for having a bike painted and dressed in crome, but for me, as in my Bike...THeres NO CROME, theres NOT EVEN any paint, RAW ALUMINIUM and Steel, no friken Plastic.

Ive been tempted to get anodising done, but to be honest, I dont think Im gonna do much else to my machine, it starts it goes it has performance,
I think the magazines, split from there roots and loose touch, the grass roots of Streetfighters was allways about trimming fat, and performance, the american put eye candy before performance, but there so fucked, they will put a twin turbo nitrous etc on a lowered stretched sports bike, and it loses the ability to corner and handle, because of its friken ridiculous sized (Penis) I mean rear tire.

I guess thats my thoughts
