Slow bike

I bought a 2023 Kawasaki KLX230. I weigh 180lbs so it’s slow as balls. Would be fun to ride if I could get it past 45mph. I plan to swap the engine with a 400. This will be my first time customizing a bike so any advice is appreciated.

Hello, what is your planned street to off road riding ratio?
Majority street. Gonna use it as a commuter bike. But will definitely swap the wheels and try some trails sometime
2023 KLX. Did you buy the bike brand new?

Curious why you didn't go for the KLX300.

Swapping the engine? With what? On a brand new bike??? First timer??

Doesn't sound legit. Help me understand.

This is what I'd like to know, what is the donor engine from?

To the OP, probably not what you want to hear, but I'd sell it and get a Suzuki DRZ 400 instead. They are somewhat slow to start with, but they have been around forever and there is a considerable aftermarket for it.

OP was on the site last night and today, with no response.

Not sure I've EVER seen an engine swap on a new bike, probably still under warranty. How fast does it need to be? My WR250X is quick and does 95 mph on the freeway, no problem.

I'm trying not to hit the BS Meter icon....

Okay. You're full of shit.

Or there's a major problem with the brand new bike, which I seriously doubt. That bike does at least 75 mph all day.

Web search shows top speed of 77mph and that’s electronically governed per one source.

Turns out the clutch plates are fucked. I called Kawasaki and I might be able to get it fixed for free within 2 weeks, but maybe I could just swap the plates myself? Dealership told me this was dangerous and I risk breaking the bike further but I’m considering fixing it myself if it means I can get on the bike faster
The dealership won’t just give you the parts to fix it yourself. You’ll have to buy them outright. If you want them free under warranty, the dealership will have to supply parts and labor. At least that’s how it was at the dealership I worked at long ago.

Got it.

Your bike is under warranty. It's a 2023. Clutch plates are fucked.

Did you buy it new? What's the mileage? Very simple questions to answer.

How did you discover the clutch plates are fucked? Clutch plates are an easy fix.
