I hate to be the guy who does this but...
you really should hang off.
The point of hanging off isn't necessarily to go faster.
You DRASTICALLY lower the center of gravity of the bike and spread it out over a greater area, allowing the bike to corner faster without steering as hard (leaning).
Less lean means more room for error, more suspension stability, less chassis flex, and more traction.
In short, hanging off lets you go just as fast without as much danger.
