I picked up a bike from BBR the second week in Dec and didnt do much with it till the other night..

I know it doesnt count till I have a photo with the date someplace in it so Ill have to start that tomorrow when I get a minute.

Im on a serious budget cuz Im out of work on my burn injury still and living off workmans comp till I get back to work. So I wont be doing any serious mods to it. Pretty much cleaning it up, doin some paint and powdercoat, and making it mine.

(Pulled from BBR's for sale thread for reference and ideas)

I have a line on some powdercoat from a friend for free! He wants to use some small parts right now to do to put in a portfolio. His oven right now is only 1' in any direction, but that leaves me with quite a few parts to do..

Color scheme Im thinkin about goin with is Matte black. BUT Im thinkin about doing things a little different with it.. Kinda like this..

Im thinking either have a Jack Daniels theme to it, or something else..

The whole bike to be in matte black, and just the accent pieces (in the paint) in gloss black.

Either the "Old #7" on each side of the tail in gloss black, with the Jack Daniels label crooked across the tank in the same gloss black.

OR

The number 53 on each side of the tail, with some big ass cool look brass knucks across the whole tank in gloss black.

Subtle but not standing right out there kinda look.

Due to the fact that I only have so much strength in my left hand I cant drop the motor and coat the frame, and paint the motor like I want. Im limited in what I can really do (heavy lifting).

Im thinking of pulling the header and polishing it up the best I can, aswell as the midpipe.

The polished but grimey cans were up in the air with either polishing them back up or coating them matte black and repacking them. The gold accents on the cans might stand out a little more if they were black, but if they were polished the whole exhaust might stand out nice over an entire black bike.

Powdercoat list (and this is up for discussion) : Matte black?
Front and rear rearsets, pegs, heal guards, upper and lower triples

Gloss black or Matte black..?
Left and right engine cases with polished stainless bolts

Wheels painted Matte black with gloss black accents across the hoop, like the tank and tail of the bike.

Paint the lower forks where the calipers mount matte black

Relocate the ignition switch (or hide it totally with a hidden switch)

ASV shorty levers

1 1/8" risers

TAG T2 CR low bend, OR Driven CF dirty bars

Smoked integrated tail light

LED flush mount turn signals in the front

For a headlight Im thinking either a V-Rod light or the Yamaha MT light like this one..

Run over my ideas and tell me what you think. Anyone that wants to photochop my ideas is more then welcome too. My P-shop skills fuckin blow.

Yeah its been a while, and Im sure Ill rebuild it again or even add too it. The FZR took me a few years to get it the way I wanted for the most part.

Lets see how this one turns out.. Any idea's people?? is there something I forgot to add to the list besides braided lines? lol
Really good to see ya building another bike man, really loved the FZR so cant wait to see how the 636 comes out!

Ya but I probably wont be balls out like last time. Im trying to get the wife to ride with me again since a crash "if you wanna call it" we had 5 years ago. She hasn't ridden with me since.

I was just cruisin last time..:D

My wife hasn't ridden with me since the 90's.. One little high speed run racing a guy down the highway at 150+ splitting cars and she was done. To be honest, I prefer the wife not wanting to ride with me, I enjoy the alone time or just hangin with the guys. I've given up the high speed stuff but I'm not about to tell her that..

Finally got a laptop and the buildoff is over.. So not I can post my updates lol. Bukes been done for about a month or so now.

An admin or mod is more then welcome to move this thread to members projects since I didnt follow the build off rules. Just shoot me a PM and let me know.

So..

My intension's for this bike were alot less then what it ended up to be. One thing led to another and stuff was being ordered left and right per how much my check was from work every week WHEN I actually returned and was finished with physical therepy.

And to to warn everyone, this will be a 56K burner.

I started off by replacing the cam chain tensioner since it was making a bit of noise and knew that the 636 always had this issue, so that got swapped out asap. I started taking random pictures of its overall condition when I picked it up so in my spare time, I could go threw on my phone and see what I wanted to change or make improvements on.

So up on the stand it went..

Bikes had a broken right rear set, so the lever was gone with the mount. This all gone replaced thanks to Paul and his box of spare parts.

The header looked like kah kah..

Off came the tail for the time being..

Tank was removed when I replaced the cam chain tensioner

The bike was 12'd at some point in its life, so those magnesium end caps had to get replaced..

Dont forget about what that midpipe looks like in this picture.. Just a note

So lets stop here for a sec.. At this point I was taking the bike apart because the hours at work were picking up, things were getting paid off and I got a SERIOUS hook up on powdercoat, and Im not talkin about the free deal I had before. I still had to pay but its less then half of what people around here have to pay for what I had done.

So the whole bike came apart..

These will get totally disassembled, polished, and re-riveted

I already had a plan for where the headlight and gauges were gonna sit, and that ignition switch had to go. So the triple came off and the first mod was made..

Like it was never there..

Test fit..

The proper tools for the job.. then DW

The clutch cover was also replaced thanks to Paul and his pile-o-parts

A few members here have asked me how I used the stock upper triple clamp and put risers on it. It was pretty simple really, and its stronger then all hell too. Started with some 1 1/8" Moose fatty bars, and some 50mm bar risers right out of the parts unlimited book. These risers were meant to bolt on top of a 7/8" lower bar clamp just like any other bar adapter you would buy. I needed the 7/8" half moon as a spacer on the bottom of my riser to make up the goofy shape of the 636 top clamp. I didnt really want them this tall but I knew I was going to need the bar clearance to clear the huge fork adjusters on top, so if I needed less.. Id just cut it off..

Here it is..

Had to cut a little V so I could move the risers outward more on the triple

PERFECT!

Found my center point on the risers, drilled a 1/2" hole all the way threw, then drilled another 3/4" hole about 1" down to counter sink the socket cap bolt to hold the risers to the triple clamp.

Since the bottom of the upper triple was so off shape, I couldnt just plate it. So I filled each side with JB weld, then milled it flat after it hardened, re-drilled my holes, then it was ready for a thick oversize steel washer on each side. Its something I wouldnt normally do, but that triple is so solid, Id trust it with my life. I did utilize the small threaded hole that was used to center the clip ons, but thats for later on..
