Everything is basically stock up to this point but I want to get a PC and exhaust. I have a 2003 sv1000s. My main concern is that it has 36000 miles. Will the rings and valves ect withstand a few more horses. This winter I want to tear her down and put new rings get the valves done and whatever else anyone can suggest. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If it were me, before I go and spend the money and time on what may be an unnecessary rebuild, I’d do a valve adjust and then a leak-down test. The leak-down will give you a clue to ring sealing, etc. If you have minimal leak down, you’re wasting your money, IMO.

If you want more power than a PC and full exhaust can give you then better camshafts (if available) would be my next step. They’ll help the engine breathe a bit better and are minimally invasive. If you want even more than cams alone can give, then head porting and higher CR pistons would be the next stage.

Later, Doug
