I'm swapping out stems here and both triples are steel with the stem welded on. I had my buddy mill off the welds and separate the halves and hes about ready to put the stem and triple together.

There is a mismatch in diameters, so obviously a bushing needs to be made. Does anyone know what the deal is with welding them back together? Is that needed? or can I get away with a bushing with a flange on the bottom welded to the stem and use that as my retaining feature?

Thanks in advance!

Not if you leave a decent flange on the bushing....just make sure the bushing is press fit.

Just make sure the bearing rest on the tree and not the bushing and while your welding the bushing, it wouldn't hurt to at least tack it to the tree, make sure it's seating in the tree.
