I used to have a cross marked on my headllight (9" round) with electical tape.

What else could i use ? the glue on the electrical tape melted after a few months and looked awful.

Paint? High temp (for brakes / exhausts / grilles) would have no problem.

Etch it into the glass with something?

Metal, attached to the light housing instead of the light?

Question being, what's the point? If you want it to hold the glass in in case of a rock strike / crash, you need something adhesive. If you don't, why are you blocking off some of the light?

+1. To each his own, but curious why. For the look?

I'd go with sheet metal and paint it black and figure out how to attach it.

I guess it really depends what you want it for, to help hold the glass together should it break, or just for the look of it. If just the look, go high temp paint or something. If you want to use tape, and you're not riding at night, just unplug the headlight.

Not sure if the use has been addressed, but I'd just mask it off and then use some black spray paint. You can still change your mind later and remove it if needed, won't have to worry about adhesive, etc. I assume that you're placing it right in the middle of the light, and I'm sure you're aware that will limit the light output at night, when you need it most! Just my .02 amigo!
