Well since switching from my katana front to the R1 the problem I have run into is no gauges, I have a tach and everything eXCEPT a speedo since it use a cable setup. I am going to get the veypor gauges eventually but need something to hold me over. Anyone had experience using the digital bicycle ones? Ive heard some people have used them but I have no idea what to look for exactly :squid:

i had a bicycle speedo on my 954 for a while, worked fine, other than not having a backlight, so when the sun went down, i couldn't see it. also only went to 65mph. good enough to get the job done though.

Only advice I can offer is that the sigma sport's are good, I've heard all good things about the 800 model.

Also, DO NOT go for the fancy wireless model. I tried one of those once and it worked only when the bike wasn't running... which was kinda a little useless. Something about when the bike was running threw off the signal and it didn't read. I don't know if that was just a freek experience, or if thats a standard issue.

And ya, don't tell the bicycle shop what you want it for, they'll only nay-say you.

i was looking at the trailtech guages at Cycle Gear today (b/c they happen to be right next to my shop), pretty nice setup for the price ($75). speedo, trip, odometer, etc. and they're backlit, so you wouldn't have the night vision problem that i had. hell a good bicycle speedo would run about that much money. doesn't have a gas light, but that wouldn't be hard to rig up. they seemed nice, small enough to still look good, but big enough to read easily. it even comes with a bar clamp that'd make mounting real easy.

The sigma series are one of the few bicycle specific ones that will go up to 120. Most others top out at 65 (I work in a mountain bike/ski shop). The back lit models are usually only momentary (around 3 seconds). Better to hook up a focused LED next to the display face.
