ok...SOOOOO

I haven't updated in forever. Because I haven't done anything in forever. It is sad but true. I started this new job i was talking about and have been working SOOO SOO SOO much. But that is good I suppose...just no time to work on the bike and ride. HOWEVER, I met a really cool guy at work. He is a customer that came in and we got to talking. Turns out he owns a business that works with cars and stuff for the big Detroit International Auto Show. He is an Aerospace certified welder and has connections with EVERYONE. When I showed him the bike I was working on, what I was modeling it after (Spirit XS850) and the person who has been the most helpful so far (BlackBII) then he left intrigued.

He came in a week later with his business partner (a higher level executive at Ford) and started asking me to show him the bike. So I went through it all with him too. At the end, the original guy I met asked what was taking me so long to finish...I explained I'm waiting on my friend to help me paint and I have some random welding stuff to finish up. He said...throw it all in a trailer and drag it over to my shop....I can get all this done. I have a powder coat guy for the frame and I can weld absolutely anything and we can get it painted right up. I thought quick and said..."Man, I super appreciate it but I know what kind of money you make. There is no way I could afford your shop." He said..."oh no...don't worry about it at all. I don't need your money. I just want to see you riding this thing. It looks amazing and I want to help. My powder guy and paint guy owe me more than enough favors. I've already talked with them and they are going to do it for free. And any machining or welding I'm going to do for you. I'm also pretty good with engines and will pull it apart and make sure its all perfect."

Soooo..needless to say...I'm getting some MAJOR help here soon. I think I might actually have a shot at FOTM now :)

dude, just saw this thread for the 1st time ever, and what amazing news! it's awesome to meet people who genuinely enjoy helping others. the fact that he refuses to accept payment is a real testament to his character, he just sounds like an all around good guy. hope it goes well for you, keep us updated! and take some more pics this time around for goodness sakes :)

To be completely honest with you, I am also hoping he asks me to work with him. I don't want to go into tooo much detail about what he does, but he makes TONS of money. The last employee he hired is making 6 figures just doing errands and stuff...but here is the kicker..

...THEY ONLY WORK THREE MONTHS A YEAR!!!!!

so yeah, the dude can afford the time and the money to do all this stuff. But even if he doesn't offer me a position, I'm still stoked to have met him and get this thing going. He also wants to take me for a ride in his Ferrari. ha. I want to say he's just a good quick judge of character. After meeting his business partner, his daughter and one of his other kids, they are all just really cool people. Not at all what you'd expect.

As far as advice? Well, I work a job where I meet lots of people every day (banker) and I honestly do my best to just be the last banker they are ever going to want. Not just for like, sales/production/bonuses...but also because that is what I want people to think of me. That I did a great job, I'm extremely nice/understanding/helpful...all of that. It is a daily grind and sometimes it goes weeks and weeks feeling thankless. Then someone like this walks in and has the ability to change your entire situation.

In the end it is all worth it. And if not, at least I know I did my part.

SO back to the bike. Now I'm scrambling trying to remember everything that needs to be gathered/ordered and all loose ends are ready for the ending. I need to order a battery, figure out the speedo thing (still) figure out the foot pegs (oh yeah..want to swap them out somehow...not the easiest thing apparently) might want to swap the shocks...lots to think about next week. Oh yeah...he said he'd get with me on Monday and we'd arrange when this is all gonna happen.

Re: XS850

A while ago i saw an motorcycle i compleely fell in love with it was a Yamahaxs850 completely modded out to be a street fighter I'm still learning about the mechanics of motorcycles. But i recently purchased one and wanted to know about the seat and maybe some help i can find a seat for it out here in Utah that will give it. Street fighter look around here are any of you aware of any websites that sell seats that either fit and if not what type of modifications are necessary to put another in. I know it might seem like a stupid question but I'm still learning and I'm having a really hard time finding any one who's familiar with fairings

WELP...i guess its been a few years. In the time that I have been MIA, I changed jobs a bunch of times, got married to a great girl who has two kids that I call my own. We bought a house and have 3 dogs. I have since traveled all over the world, hitting South America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. All for work. I leave this job in 2 weeks to spend a little more time at home.

All that is to say, the last post I made here was the last thing I did to the bike. It has sat dormant. Life got busy. Too busy. Its about to slow down, and while its sad to see this dream die, I have new dreams.

I think im going to part it out. Anyone interested in anything? Or all of it? I recently spoke to a mechanic who quoted me about 3 grand to finish it. I just don't see myself putting that much cash into it after all I already have into it.

So go ahead, make an offer!

Or, I guess, is there anyone in my area that would be interested in wrapping this up for me? For a price of course. Even if you aren't directly in my area, I might be able to drive to where you are.
