So, yeah, picked up a 1981 GS450 to turn into a bobber. Had the motivation to do it after I converted one of my old customers' honda cb650's into a bobber (

But, yeah, the old lady wanted something we could mob around town on together (3 fighters, all solo seats)....so, Im tearing into this one this weekend to start...
The guy who owned it before me did some SUPERSHITTY work to attempt a chopper look....really scary shit, so I went down to the local wrecking yard and got me a donor frame to modify for tank, seating and hardtail purposes...
I went the cheap and easy way on the madmax bobber because it wasnt mine, so I want to do it the right way on this one...
heres some pics of how it was (still is) when i bought it:
heres some pics of the shitass scary work they did to bob it:
and another pic representing the lovely wiring job they did (lucky I have an intact harness on the donor):
Here's a pic of the donor frame (kinda hard to see, i know):
here's what Ive done so far:
Removed the center support bar, so I can line up and weld a new straight downtube support and gusset from the stem to the downtubes (the tubing I'm using is from my old band's van racking...VERY STURDY...rust is only surface rust, btw....once everything is welded and done, it goes in to be blasted and powdercoated)
And the sweet peanut tank that came with it (needs to be dipped for internal rust still, and resealed)
oh, and my super score for the week, my RX8 I picked up for $60!!!
All in all, I'm into the bike $410 (260 for the running motor, and 150 for the good frame)
