Well, the night before the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride and the bike had been back together for all of 30mins and I had enough daylight to do a short test ride. It was sitting in the driveway in a state finally complete enough to take to the ride.

Overnight I found some leftover grey vinyl which I had previously used on the tank so in the morning I put it on tail. I was running a little late so I was bookin' it on the highway, bike ran like an absolute monster, the new tyres felt amazing.

Made it to the meet just in time; 360 degree views, what a terrible place to live.

There we go, proof of a ridable, semi-finished cafe-ish VFR750.
There seems to be a lot of compression on the forks and shock, I'll have to measure sag and see where it's at.

I’ve got to do the DGR one of these years

Some time has passed but I have continued to work on the bike. It rides very, very well but I did proceed to make a mount for the CBR954 rear shock and add some aftermarket clipons to help adjust the bar angles and widths to suit me. I'm on version 3 of the tail now as I try different ideas. This is how it looks now:

Added Honda decals to the tank and made a chain guard out of aluminium.

Custom coolant tank made from an Asahi beer can!

3D printed tail with a coat of body filler and rattle can satin black paint. This is the lowest cost way to do a prototype and if it looks any good then I'll do some more sanding and give it a proper paint job.

How did you solve the speedometer?
I started by pulling apart the standard guages and had 3D printed a housing to hold just the speedometer and tachometer:

The design was okay, I had a lazer cut piece of perspex for the lense and but by just using the speedo and tacho I would loose a fuel lever and a water temperature guage.

Because I was using the Motogaget m.unit blue I could easily add a guage from them which would allow a lot more features. I loved the look of the Chronoclassic but ended up getting the Motoscope Pro because it had so much functionality. So far it's been awesome, it has fuel guage, water temp, warning messages, rev limit, voltage 0-100 timer, max speed, max g force, indicator lights. It works in bright sunshine and at night. Expensive, and not quite the classic look I originally was aiming for but it solved a lot of problems and fits well on the bike.

Made it to another DGR. It's been 12 months since the bike was 'completed and it's an absolute blast to ride. The lower gearing makes the bike just a rocket to accelerate from a stop, and the sound is awesome.

I reprinted the tail and gave it a 'better' quick paintjob literally the night before the DGR, again. Replaced the indicators with some better quality ones from Purpose Built Moto and swapped to a japanese made Kioto H4 headlight which is more round, better quality and just looks nicer.

I think the next mod will be to make a belly pan and see if that adds anything.
