The swingarm is stock. It was silver. I thought it stood out like a sore thumb.

I swapped the front wheel for a rear wheel. But needed the conversion kit to do that. Sorry for the confusion.

 

Ok so you took off the taller wheel in the front then? Makes sense. Where did you get hte kit may I ask? I'm thinking of doing the same on a xj550 I have, has the larger wheel up front. Thanks for the info/help.

83 Yamaha Virago XV750 Cafe Project update

I have been working on this bike for what seems like forever. I only get a few minutes here and there to toy with it. But here is a little bit more progress.


This is the rear subframe. Sorry about the clutter... I just moved and we were still unpacking.

Oh and I found a picture of the bike before I started my project:

Here is the rear I carved out of foam. And the progressive steps to covering it with fleece and fiberglass resin over that to make a hard shell. next will be to fiberglass cloth the inside a bit for some strength. I have the side covers done as well.

Sorry for the long break in between updates. And I know I haven't gotten much done. But it's a work in progress.

No, the flames are coming off. Thinking of just black. Possibly a racing stripe down one side. Not sure yet.

How did you get the tank to lift? Do you have a picture of the bracket / lift?

Coming along nicely man. Hope the tail unit ends up as promising as it is looking now.

 

The front and rear tires are 130/90-16's.

As far as the tank goes.... I closed off the back of the tank... Right now it is just resting on that. I plan on cutting and welding a bracket onto the bottom of the tank to hook up to the stock mounting point.

You said you bought your linkage on ebay. Was that a "build it yourself" kit or custom for a virago?

 

Definitely not made specifically for the virago. Think they were universal.
