Hi. Been doing research on this, have been getting the info from various places on the 'net as we do, but i can not find a full write up on the conversion for what i want to do, plenty for the Blade, even the Gixxer and others but not for the BB with enough info.

The "Big Bird" thread by RadioBloke (where did he go?) was a great help for sure. Also over on another site was a great thread about it too by TexasDawg.

I am asking for this info as it's my daily and i can not afford to be off the road for any more than a weekend!, so i just need the info i will ask for below so i can have any spacers made / bits making before i tear her down.
So i can take a weekend and strip out, and re-build and be ready for Monday morning.

Things i know :

Swing arm from a 1994 - 1997 VFR 750 (reading it's the most easy way to go linkage/fabrication wise etc as the suspension linkage style is the same).
I need a spacer in the swingarm pivot bolt.
Stock BB shock is fine to use / or one from a Blade (not sure on Blade year atm).
Will need new longer chain.
I want to run a car wheel with a wide tire, so reading i need to offset swingarm fully to the left to give space to go wider going right.
Shock needs to be moved to the left to clear swingarm, so I will drill a new top mount hole in the frame.
As i am going to use the later swingarm, I need longer bolts and 3 spacers to bolt the linkage together.
The pcd is 4/100 at (et19?), I know i need a spacer and longer studs to fit a car wheel.
From a YT vid i know Honda Civic extended studs work, somewhere i'm sure i read that Transit studs will also work (UK).
I need some sort of spacer for the car wheel to sit on the studs/mounting oem area.
I can route the rear break line inside the Swingarm for bonus points!.

Things i need to know that i just can't find out :

What size spacer for the swingarm pivot bolt that goes through the frame?, as the arm is all the way to the left (if your looking at the rear of the bike) there is a gap, does anyone have the exact spacer sizing please?. I am sure i saw somewhere you can use the OEM VFR 750 spacer if it comes with the swingarm?.

Same for the spacers on the lower mounting triangle for the shock, bolt length too please.

Spacer / rear studs - does anyone know exactly what sort / size spacer is needed for a 7" - 8" rear wheel to center it?. This is something that i have not seen a picture of at all...on the last page of RadioBlokes's post way back in 2012 he fitted a 7.5 with a 200 but no mention throughout the whole thread of spacer machine work, sizing, or even a pic...
Same as for the studs, I can have a spacer made up but it would be such a help to know sizing or some details please!.

I want to show that i have read, searched and looked for a time now and just need this info then i can get on with it!, I wanted to bump RadioBloke's post up but it's from 2012 and didn't want to, as he has not been on her for years.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful!. I can't PM as no score.

I will update this with some pics as soon as i get started on it!. Thanks. #76.

@MikeGyver

Thanks, It might be my first post here but i'm on it elsewhere!.

Yep, I like to do my own stuff.

OK, I don't do all the FB shit. Not for me.....

Think maybe so, I just don't like to drag up a near 11yr old thread, but sometimes it's best to just add to the OP's info etc. See how this post goes i guess.

All the best!. #76.

@Spyrious

Thank you very much for the link!. Appreciated.

But, as in my post above i mentioned "TexasDawg" for some of the info i already have, but he used the more complex early arm and had a hard time making beautiful machined linkages etc and it's why (as said by himself) I am going with the easier to install 94-97 arm instead.

But, thanks for taking the time to try and help!. All the best. #76

OK, so it's not looking very promising here lol!.

I really don't want to have to resurrect a thread from 2012!..... I thought someone might have had the answers that i needed apart from the help the two guys who have posted on here gave me.

Also, if anyone is looking... I would like to Turbo the Blackbird, she is a August 1998 Carb. Is there a good DIY kit that can be made up?. I will have to sit down and do the research on it i guess like i have done the research on the Swingarm swap out.

Just thought to ask...in case anyone is looking and has done one or knows whats what.

Thanks for now.

Just making notes here and may help anyone....

94-97 VFR Swingarm Length : 560
Pivot width: 227 (+3.5 thrust collar)
Axle diameter of VFR - 20

CBR 1100 XX is 253 wide at the pivot bolt & 535 long.
Axle diameter of Blackbird - 20
So spacer needed of 26mm o/d and 20mm i/d needs to be machined up!, Progress...

Not sure on the +3.5mm of the thrust collar tho?.

I'll keep looking into it.

Hi Toad. Thanks for the msg.

This is exactly why i am asking for the missing info i need and making sure i have everything ready, checked and sorted to do it all before i start.

Sadly, still missing info i need, and i am amazed that no one has posted up any more?... i guess forums are a thing of the past now huh. It's all FB & i don't do all that.

I have managed now to send a msg to RadioBloke, hope he will be kind enough to fill in the missing info!. Or maybe best as said before to resurrect the old post again?.

Burnt out my Stator the other day, and also the Reg/Rec with it, so just repairing her atm....doing the Mosfet upgrade too and wiring in direct to the battery.

All fun.

Hallo

Hello

You have to use the VFR 800 swingarm. Then you need an offset pinion on the motor, I think it was 20mm. You then have to move the shock absorber on the upper mount by about 20 mm. You have to build the triangle yourself from the deflection where it is offset. Then you can put a wide tire on the car rim without moving the rear wheel.

How time fly's!.
Sorry for the late reply back been traveling.

Thank you very much to @fighterchristian.ck and to @Smoker for the translation.

That is some great info!, many thanks for taking the time out to post that up and the pictures too, but does lead to some questoins...800 arm?...

That 800 rear arm install? , i was told that the 800 is too wide so was there any shaving down of the arm at the pivot bolt to be able to fit it in?, or did it bolt straight in?. What year bike was it from?.
Do you have a part # for the sprocket at all please?.
Do you know what size rear tyre that is in the pictures?. I can see the helpful info on the actual wheel so that helps a lot to find what you would need.

The 800 arm's are cheaper too, from the research i have been doing and all are (seem) in better condition too i guess from being later units. This would make things easier my end, but as i said thought the 800 arm was a no go!.

Happy New year all!.

OK, so no reply back from above.

I really need to move forward with this!. So, the swing arm seems to be (from some visual research) a Pre V-tec arm circa 1998. Like the version of @fighterchristian.ck bike above, so that's good to know.

Non V tec 1998 :

V-Tec 2002-2009

And also yes it does look like the brake pedal side of the swingarm has been cut down, from what i can see on the pic (below), and just one i found off egay... so if its shaved down was a different bearing used on that side?, oil seal etc?, It's all the little details i really need to be able to go for this 800 swap out rather than the 750 arm.

And egay arm (deff looks not shaved down if you look at the little casting circle and eye up the meat on both sides).

Wheel is a Keskin KT7.

Questions now to be able to use a 800 arm :

I am happy to shave the arm down no hassle. But did you only cut down the brake pedal side?, and did you use another bearing/seal on the shaved side i can see?.
What is that sprocket you used? - how can i get a part number etc please?.
When you bolted on the rear wheel in the pic ( 8 x 17 ET : 35) did it sit center of the bike & ready to mount the tyre/ride?.

I appreciate everyone is busy - and only can reply and help when time is there.

If not i will go with the 750 arm as i have all the info i need for that swap out now. A big thank you to Neil Geswind!. Neil Geswind - YouTube

So, my name was mentioned above and i am Neil Geswind.
I am the owner of a 2002 Fi Honda CBR1100IT Unique Blackbird called Pennywise and a 1998 Carb Honda CBR1100xx Super Blackbird called The Blackbitch.
i am no engineer but this is the easiest custom conversion i did on my Blackbird. I know others have done this conversion but they make it look very complicated but i also wanted it to be a bit different a bit of "the only one it the world" type thing. What i can say is that my conversion unfortunately was the most expensive conversion to date and just to be "Unique". i will elaborate on this at a later stage. However, this does not mean it will be expensive for you.
Right....!!!!
Parts i used for this swap.
VFR750 Single Swingarm (early model)
VFR800 rear Brake caliper and braket
VFR800 Rear Wheel 4x100pcd (but playing around with various car wheel options)
Longer pivot bolts

When it started becoming expensive (optional)
  • EK X-Ring Chain x 2 (why x2, cause i needed to ad in 5 x links and my chain was "RED"
  • New JT Rear Sprocket
  • New Sinter brake pads

When it became really, No Really expensive...!!! (optional)
  • Swingarm Stretched 100mm (only went 100mm so handling wont be compromised)
  • Hub refurbished and all new bearings fitted (of which there was none in the country and had to be ordered from Japan/China...Where is Honda again...?)
  • Custom Rear brake disc
  • Steel Braided brake lines (needed longer lines due to the relocation of the brake caliper and longer wheel base)

Tools needed
  • Knocktometer
  • Isopherical gauge
  • Torque Hammer
  • Synthetic Wool
  • Nail Clipper
  • 3 x Beaded Cockring

Now, let me see if i can upload the pics.

I've found when it comes to customizing motorcycyles, it will spiral into a bigger job than you ever anticipated.
In all aspects, time, money, parts. Costs can be reduced if you have the tools and skills to do alot of fabricating yourself (and dont rely on commercial machining companies to "help you out").

I'm in the middle of a single sided swingarm conversion on my Honda currently. So all of the above is based on my experiences..

And you are absolutely correct...just when you think you are done, you think of a different idea and you think you just gonna change one little thing....next thing you know you changing everything.
Below is a video of when i started with Pennywise it will explain the above. i started this project 4 years ago during lock down. one of the reasons i call it Pennywise is because you dont really get aftermarket parts and accessories for the Blackbird like you would for the Hayachoo and the Kaminsakme zx14, so if i find i can build something myself, i did. if i dont have a tool/s to build the thing, i build the tool i need.
and i'm a bit of a Caveman Engineer, give me a 9'inch nail and a rock and i'll built you anything. it might not look the same but it will work the same or even better. so i saved money by fabricated and doing certain custom stuff jobs myself thus being "Pennywise".
on the other hand, if there was something i wanted and i know its going to make my bike Unique cause not one else have it or has done it then i dont give a FCUK how much it cost i will spend what i have to, and that was not very Pennywise.

Intro is a bit long but you can skip it.

The Blackbitch i got due to the Clown being under construction and waiting on parts. I also knew that i will get a lot of slack from the purest so i wanted to show that i have a stock Blackbird...that idea was suddenly clouded by the fact of what am i going to do with all the parts and accessories of the Clown where i changed my mind...a week after i bought a decent 98 Carb, Sh!t happened and no one want to believe me. During that week when i was about to take the Carb for a ride i was ubducted by Aliens in a round flying thing that looks like a Saucer. When they brought me back the Carb looked totally different. Its like that story by Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm The Elves and the Shoemaker. That bike was never the same again....it never wanted to ride at the back or in a group, only in front. thats when i realised she dont play well with others...The Bitch...!!!!
