I think I have gone mad!!

Does anybody have a ktm250sx engine laying around i can buy ??

it looks like it would fit without to much hassle.......and it produces 50hp at standard :O...lots of frame bracing would be required i expect :L

I think I'm going to run without the front frame tubes Honda decided to add to make it look like a cradle bike..it looks more retro without them.

"March 1986 saw a largely cosmetic reworking of the H100-S, to form the H100-SII. This model received bolted-on frame down tubes which gave the appearance of a conventional cradle-frame motorcycle. The ignition system was reverted to CDI..."

also it will make the headlight "flow" better into the body.

what do you think?

It looks strange without them, but probably only because my brain expects to see them. Looks ok I guess when I try and see it objectively.

Its been a while...

money and time has been an issue.

Finally got the lower yoke back,
Now to draw up another stem and get it machined somewhere and pressed back in for the fork swap to be complete.

It look like I'm going to have to make up a subframe to weld to the frame to fit the new swing-arm But I'm sure it will be worth it when it eventually gets done.

How much can somebody machine me a stem for in the UK?

Hi from just down the road in nuneaton :)

Good to see something different being built, i had a H100 new aged 17 which is more years ago thank i care to remember lol From experiance if you run it without the front tube its going to try & shake itself to bits so if you really dont like the look of the original you really need to make up something different

For the swingarm if its wider at the pivot than the frame all you need to do is make up some spacers to get it in :) you are going to run into chain alignment problems but i wouldn't have thought there was anything too major to worry about there

Shout up if i can help :)

Hey mate! Nuneaton Is bloody close!

I'm glad you said this! I will run the tube front tube then!

The swing-arm is narrower than the pivot.. so I'm planning on making some adapter plates to create a narrower pivot point further back that will be bolted and welded to the frame tubes ....
so it will be another 9 Inches longer than standard with the extra swing-arm length.. also it needs a top mount for the mono-shock to be mounted..

For now I will get the front end done :)

For some reason even with my expensive course fees they wont machine me a stem at uni... assholes..

once i get my next student loan in the stem will be the next part to be made :D

Hey guys,

I don't have the funds to do this project and the xj600.. If anybody wants to buy it and finish it as long as they make a build thread I'm quite happy to let it go for a good price!

Cool Thanks john...I would be very interested in seeing the finished product.

Yes the parts are alot heavier than stock...although the parts that are fitted are the same as the gpr 50cc... with stock power being around 8.5 :LolLolLolLol: the Honda's stock 10.5 should be enough..

i will admit this will be no speed machine..... although i have heard rumors that when these were raced they used to squeeze a pathetic 19hp from it....still its not bad for such a small displacement.

Totally understand. I race minis along with the larger bikes. My little KX65 mini only makes 15hp but is tons of fun. We just take care what things we add to it.

I would consider keeping the bolt-on frame pieces if they serve any kind of additional structural support. You've added the stiffer inverted forks and it would benefit the bike to have added support to compensate for them. All of the flex that the fork tubes and stock tree used to soak up will now be transmitted to the chassis. Could cause cracks near the welds over time. even on a small CC machine it makes a difference. My buddy races an NS50 Honda chassis with a KX65 motor. He swapped the stock front end to the larger diameter KX65 forks and tree. The stiffer front end put a lot of stress on the frame. That combined with a little extra vibration from the more powerful motor caused cracks to show up near most of the chassis welds. He finally gave up fixing them and added the bottom half of a stock KX65 frame cradle to the NS50 frame. It stopped the cracks.

If you want to make power, you need to get rid of that pipe and get a proper expansion chamber.
That was the plan! bit reeds..big carb..boost bottle..big expansion..ported bore and lots lots more...

If nobody wants to buy it It will either get split for parts or get put into storage.
