Hapoy to see this is still alive
Glad to see you updating again. What happened with the head light?
Hey good to be back!

The lights have a plastic reflector inside and the bulb gets so hot that it melts the plastic. I caught mine before the plastic dripped onto the bulb.

That and the fact they advertise them being 8" when they're actually less than 7"

On the bright side they did refund me for them. Good on BangGood for doing that, at least.

So this isn't dead yet...just haven't been working on the bike much. Now that winter is here, gonna start working on it soon. Found a machine shop that will be able to make the threads for my fork extenders/spacers.

Just a pic and a quick vid of the bike in its current state and running.

Started to take stuff apart today. Next step is completely dissembling an R1 fork to see exactly how my spacers need to be made.
I don't know if it will help at all, but here is a quick write up on how I extended some buell USD forks by 2" using a spacer internally.

Just a spacer under the damper, stud in the old bottom bolt hole, jamb nut and coupler on the stud and a new bolt for the bottom...

Hey thanks man!

That's exactly what I was planning on doing. The kit I saw online also supplies extenders for the top end of the fork (screw on between the top cap and the fork body.

EDIT: Scratch what I said last night.

I just checked my forks today but I won't be able to do what you did. I have collars inside the fork tube that center the stanchions inside the fork tube, and the one at the top is at the very very top. If I raise it anymore it pops out of the collar and the forks get all loose. I'm gonna have to make both pieces. My dad is doing the machining for the top extensions tomorrow morning, and then I'll bring them to a local machine shop here in near me that will do the fine metric threading for the tube extensions.

Hell yeah man, those will be nice!

Was checking out the V4Musclebike forums which is a forum dedicated to these old bikes, and came across a post about a bike that was for sale on eBay. Suffice it to say, it's the first Sabre I've seen modified in this way and I think it's going to have a major influence on my project.

Well still not much new...trying to do decide what seat I want to buy and where I want to go with the project. What do you guys think? I'm steering towards a shorter cafe racer seat, but I'd still love to keep the option to have a passenger on the back at some point...

Suffice it to say a lot more progress is going to be made very soon. Should have my extensions back from the machine shop soon.

Got this today for x-mas.

I've had good luck with any VHT engine paint, and for wrinkle finish I use stuff from harley davidson. The harley wrinkle is pretty expensive for spray paint but it works good. Forgot what it costs though...

Thing with engine paint is curing it. It will stay soft and chip off easy until the motor is run for a while. I want to say vht says to cure it at 200 deg. so if you have access to a large enough oven then cool, or just be real careful unless the motor has run for a while...

Thanks yeah I've heard about running it to "cure" the paint. I hope it'll hold up long enough before I'm able to start the engine again.
