lovin the site guys, it inspired me to get my project bike goin but i think i'm already screwed. i recently picked up a 94 zx9r that had been obviously abused and wrecked but i didnt notice anything major til i showed a pic to a friend. after looking at my bike and some others on the site it looks like the rake on the front is WAY too steep. i tried to measure the angle and came up with 15 degrees, that doesnt sound right does it? the more i look at it the front just looks all wrong. can a front end collision cause this kind of damage to the head tube, frame? the forks and trees seem straight as far as i can tell. i started tearing it down but i dont want to do anymore til i figure out if this thing is totally F'd up. i hope the pics help. please help me guys i really want to get my project thread goin :(

bike is rideable and has full turning capability with no interference though if that helps. the tire just seems awfully damn close to the rad.

thanks ENDO I think i think your right. kinda having a hard time facing reality right now. looking for all opinions though

This is the best pic I could find if you want to try to compare. I think my rake is about 22?

Have you ridden the bike? Did it seem to steer in to corners a lot quicker that you would expect?

Yep. Frame is definitely bent. So at this point you have three options:

1) find a new-to-you, titled frame
2) part it out and cut your losses
3) become angry, light the bike on fire, and start fresh.

I don't recommend option 3.

By the pics, looks like the openings in the frame must have been the weakest spot so it folded after the accident. I would look for a new frame.

Don't feel too bad, I just bought a bike with the wrong front tire on it and an iron stake through the forks.

FUCK ME! alright i guess its true. thanks for the quick replies.

rod185651- thanks for the pic, that pretty much sums it up. as for turning it seemed ok but i now think it did turn rather quick. just putted around the neighborhood though i dont have much riding experience.

DrAwKwArD- the owner didnt mention it but whatever. guess i still got a decent deal for engine and parts anyway.

thaOrleanyte- i havnt signed the title yet.

Fizzer_$tfighter- i failed to notice it when i picked it up, too excited i guess. there was another guy there about to buy it but now that i think about it was probably just his buddy tryin to move the sale along.

Find a ZX9R or ZX7R frame and swap all parts over.
A TON of ZX9 parts fit zx7's and visa versa, at least all the major stuff youd need to get it rolling and riding.

EBAY to the rescue. got a new (to me) 94 frame on da way  project thread coming soon. the more i look at the bike though that big fat tail is starting to bug me. has anyone seen or done a later model zx9 seat/tail/subframe swap on these things? i'm wonderin how a newer seat would look mated up to the old tank, if it looks too awkward i'll probably scrap the idea. saw rod185651's and BurtonF166's swaps which look awesome but just thinking about the zx swap

I can't wait till I have $200 for a ebay duc monster frame so I can start on my pile of wreakage resurection:ducati::shootme:

i have a fiberglass tail of a later model 9 and was going to fit it to my bike.

but

it still looks likr a pregnant guppy.

the tail on the B is like a fat chicks ass, huge. but the later tail is not much better. yes it is better but not much. it also will not fit on the factory B subframe. you need to ether chop hell out of the factory sub frame or make another to fit a tail that is still not all that much better.

If you want to stay in the family look at a later zx6 or zx1o, or a z7 or z1000

i will put up pics of teh two tails tonight once i clean up the shed.

wow..... The two center tubes of the header being crunched is a prime sign that someone head ended the bike. They usally bend just forward of the carbs and usually can be seen alot better from the rear side of the frame. I powdercoat "repaired" frames all the time. Do yourself a favor and just get a new one
