Here's what I got so far: Started as an 05 all white katana 600

Pulled everything off, and painted some pieces black

Flipped the bars after looking at scrapper's katana build. added bar end mirrors.
Still need:
Headlights(which i'll mock up this weekend)
Battery box/undertail (this weekend)
Gauge cluster
turn signals
brake lights
frame mounts welded on for some rollers cause i like to drop this thing.
air filters (which are in the mail as we speak)
some paint touch ups on the frame
exhaust - i want to run the can under the motor, which will require a new header
shortening/lengthening wires
new front brake line

anyone have advise on the header? getting 4 into 1 before it makes the turn under the frame? cause i heard that each curve requires a certain length of straight pipe, etc., or should i go take it to a shop?

Doing this really simple and cheap.
Should have more pics up soon after this weekend.

Thanks.

Re: 06 Kat-a-tuna

@Bob: I guess they're cv since the slide is before the butterfly, and they have bladders. How long of extensions are we talking? Do you know where i'd be able to get more info?
Thanks

And i ordered this badboy today just to rip the headlights out of it. I haven't decided on whether to order another mask for all 4 projectors, or go with some projector fog lights, for the remaining two holes.
So my choice is:
2 low projectors and 2 high projectors, or
1 low, 1 high, and two fog lights, or...
Any suggestions?

Re: 06 Kat-a-tuna

From what I remember reading, for CV carbs you need at least the same volume of stable air as the jug it's filling. So using the 600 as an example, you need 150ccs of air ready and stable. For a visual example 20oz = 591cc. So 150cc = 5.7oz, so one of those shortie soda cans. Also constrict the air flow in through the filter, maybe wrap over part of it or something? Ideally getting it as close to stock flow will make for the least amount of work for jetting. So if you have to spend twice as much time finding the right stuff for the new "airbox" it's easier time spent than pulling the carbs apart over and over again, unless you really like that.

Re: 06 Kat-a-tuna

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of pirating the late Greencheezeeta's usage of radiator hoses to route the pods outside the frame. And I'll play around with blocking the filters.
The bike ran lean to begin with, so I may still pull the carbs, and prolly re-jet them since I'll have them cracked open.

Re: 06 Kat-a-tuna

I keep meaning to start a thread on my bike. I have a 98 katana that I've started over on. I used the stock exhaust can and cut off the ends. I hollowed out the inside and then packed it with fiberglass. I held that in with a mesh screen. Im using the cams from an 86 gsxr (not the ideal ones but at 15 bucks I figured why not). and I used a dynojet kit.
Tell me how you feel about the pods cause I want to try some sort of relocated filter idea.
I only had about 35 miles on all this before i decided to tear it apart again. but between the above (I only changed the jet settings once, its still a lot rich on the bottom end but up top it pulls hard, no popping or backfiring) and the prolly 35 lbs of weight loss the bike got a whole lot funner.
This is my first bike build so I'm kinda flying by the seat of my pants. Looking forward to seeing what your plans are.
Cant wait to see how yours turns out. I'm super curious to see what you do with the headlight Idea

Re: 06 Kat-a-tuna

Love the headlight idea. Can you scavenge them from a car junkyard? Would that be cost-effective or feasible? I'm throwing it out there but I don't really know the answer, so I will do a search on here in a moment.

:edit

Yup, looks like a cheap way to go: Junkyard for projectors from luxury cars.

Re: 06 Kat-a-tuna

@mr_aj_johnson, the wiring diagram came from cyclepedia.com, an online site that has manuals for just about every bike. I'm either going to relocate the pods with radiator hose, or actual metal tubing, I have no idea what it'll run like since i'll be out of the country in a few weeks for work, and doubt i'll have it running by then.

@fotocycle, i'm trying to keep the projectors at about a 2.25" diamter, to fit through the airbox holes. some cars are too large, also i really don't have the ambition to go HID, which i did notice most cars are. plus the f'n bulbs for the HID projectors are ~$100. I'll call the local scrapyard to see what they got.

thanks for the comments, also gonna tuck a new gauge cluster in the top of it too, when I can afford that.

Re: 06 Kat-a-tuna

Thanks for the info. I was actually at wal mart, grabbing a set of cheapo fog lights for the subaru and ended up getting some round fogs for 14 bucks that might work for what your doing. (at least for low beams maybe) I have my airbox off right now I will poke them through the hole and take a pic for you. Hopefully tonight. ( I need to take pics of the bike anyway)
Really excited to see how this turns out, I hate the ascerbis light I have.
