double or triple post, big deal.

------------------------

Some progress....

Started grinding off the oem shock mount
Image

Made subbie mounts out of 1.75" x 3/8" 6061...just need a pro to weld this up for me.

I also made a "practice" shock mount of 1.75" x 1/4" 1018 CD to see if I could break my welds...couldn't do it! :)

i like what your putting into the bike and the work your doing...but right off the bat, i think it looks too much like motohorho's bike.

It is very similar, I know. Definitely something that grinds my gears.

I'm confident that once the bike comes together, it will be unique.

A valid question. I've only done cam-over-bucket setups, but this certainly seemed to be the most reasonable place to measure the clearances. The manual doesn't show the procedure, only describes it.

I could be very easily wrong....but I am pretty sure you get your cam orientation (two different orientations) and then measure on the top of the valve itself under the (arm) and then write everything down and replace shims accordingly.

I am no expert just doesnt look right and I could be wrong...would just hate to see you miss a simple reading and have a problem down the road.

I am sure someone with more experience with this model (era) engine should be able to chime in.

Sweet build buy the way I have been keeping a eye on it as this is the next model bike I am looking to buy this spring.

After re-doing the valve clearance check the right way (thanks a lot for the input gs & moto), I have 6 valves out: 2 IN and 4 EX. The strange thing is that they're all on the lose end! Max tol on the EX is .010, and I have two that are .013!

Anyways, shims are ~$7/piece.....seems crazy.

A shim kit (9.48 mm in diameter) looks like its about $80. I was hoping someone on here had some left over shims from their kit that they no longer need and I could buy :), anyone?!

When I bought my 08 R1 rear end, I knew the rim had a bend in the lip, but the tire held air still, I thought about just trying it out. I used by $4 bead breaker and pulled off the tire last night, then spun the rim on a stand: it's wickedly bent....bad news.

Craigslist FTW about 45 min later. 04 r1 rim with a Pilot Power tire locally!!

Thank you again. I really appreciate it and will pass it onto another fighter one day.

I milled myself some risers and bent up my headlight shroud. Things are moving soooo slowly.....

I had quite the scare earlier. One of the little rubber gasket/washers used on the valve cover bolts fell out of it's seat, into the head, and by some crazy misfortune, rolled into one of the two oil return lines in the front of the motor. Gone....or so I thought.
Luckily, those things are magnetic. I went and got a tiny magnet/extension thingy and fished it out. I was about ready to buy a new headgasket and CCT because I thought I'd have to pull the head. Lucky lucky.

I also mounted my headlights, shroud, risers and bar. Ignore the pad.
